    Film Fade and Film Dissolve

I see options for Film Fade and Film Dissolve when you create a transition.  What is the difference between these and a normal dissolve.  I have indeed tried all of them and notice that they do make a difference visually, but I was just wondering what there purpose is.

Re: Film Fade and Film Dissolve

A typical video dissolve is based on a linear transition.

Film dissolves and fades are not. These 2 effects are done by running 2 actual film over a source light. Film has a different density between its light and dark areas. Thus light passes through each area at a different rate. So when you do a film fade/dissolve darker areas either fade down or up faster than the light areas. Avid simulates this behavior.

Respectfully, Dom, as I certainly appreciate your professional guidance, Avid also explains this and other Film Effects in the Help; some with graphics.

Hope you don't mind. Smile [:)]
