    Media Manager and Indexing

    Hey Everyone,

I have just recently become the content administrator for the Golf Channel. As such my duties include keeping up with the media on the Unity servers via Media Manager. Everything has been going fine except for one small hiccup.

Every so often I'll delete media through media manager and then the editors get a message from their Media Composers that their systems are indexing the drives. As far as I was aware Media Manager should be doing the indexing, and as long as we are working through Media Manager there shouldn't be any need for the Media Composers to be indexing the drives in this manner.

Am I wrong? Is there a setting in the Media Composers that should be switched?

It's not terrible, but it causes a work stoppage every time we need to clear space for new media.

    Any explanation would be helpful.

We are using MM 4.5.6 and ocassionally we've been seeing that indexing too with our Newscutter XP's. I am not sure what that means either but you're right, it sure does take a lot of time.

The MediaManager documentation suggest that you delete when things are quiet and then dive into the MediaFile folders and delete the msmFMID.pmr files. They'll be rebuilt when the editors are relaunched and you may save some time.
