Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

This was only an issue early on in v8.x where there were hangs on exports and force quitting those processes would restore control of the system. But that was fixed a while a go.

There's should not be any negative reprecussions of those processes hanging. But it is one of the reasons that Avid is slowly moving away from QuickTime dependencies.

The "Quicktime_OPServer" process from time to time will stop responding and it is related to the media that the Media Composer has indexed on every connected drive (so not only in the project you are working on right now).   As long as you do not have any issues, you can continue your editing.   This particular process do not interfere with the system stability.

    H Marianna,

Agreed, I have found that ignoring it is the best policy. But it feels just plain wrong to have a process continually not responding - surely there's some hidden downside to allowing the computer to carry on this way? Roll on the departure of QuickTime!

Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

Finally figured out how to solve this problem:

Hope this helps resolve all of your problems with this. Quit out of ProTools/Media Composer and force quit the Quicktime_OPServer processes in your activity monitor. Then launch QuickTime Player 7 and go into Preferences, deselect the "Show Content Guide automatically" and then quit QT7. Launch your ProTools/Media Composer and the problem should be gone.

Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

I'm having the same issue with the Quicktime_OPServer (not responding).

I followed the steps outlined above - disabling "Show Content Guide Automatically" in Quicktime, but I'm still getting the same thing. Avid barely works at all for me - beach balls every time I click in the timeline or try to play back my sequence.

I've reinstalled Avid and my OS, everything short of doing a clean reinstall of the OS.

Has anyone solved this yet? I can't work in Avid at all the way things are at the moment!

    Thanks!

    Olaf

Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

Hi this is an old problem and thread - but yet - i am still having a similar situation with OS X High sierra and PT 12

I have two users -so this happens regularly when i swith the user back and forth

I wonder if there is a terminal command to stop and restart the quicktime OP_Server properly, to avoid havong to reboot.

Usually closing Protools and opening it agian seems to work

Yeah, I'm still having the same problem too and stumbled upon this thread looking for a solution to it. I'm on the newest version of MC (2019.8.0). I can't believe this has been going on for so long without it being resolved.

That error pops up when a user upgraded thier mac to Catalina which is not supported yet.... you need to either back rev to Majove or do a dual boot with Mojave on one side.

    Hi Marianna,

I'm on High SIerra, haven't upgraded yet to Catalina. I'm updating to MC 2019.11 to see if it resolves that and a handful of other issues I'm having with MC 2019. Lets see if that fixes them Yes

    Hi Joshua,

I saw your message in the forum about this issue. I´ve had it since I upgraded to AVID MC 2019. AVID can´t help me. I´ve tried almost everything. Today I upgraded to the latest version 2019.11, hoping that it would solve the problem but it came after an hour. Have you recieved any help on this issue?

    Best regards

    Erik

Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

    Hi Erik,

We still see the quicktime OPServer crashing. at the moment still on Avid MC 8.8.3 and OSX 10.10.5.

With this setup the Activity Monitor from the Mac notices that the QR OPServer is not responding, but when you look at the proces info / statistics, you will see that it does not hang completely.

For Us it helped to "disableSearch" in the avid console. This does not resolve the Quicktime OPserver hang, but it helps us to edit without futher issues. Otherwise we let it be as it is.

    Kind regards,

    Rob.
