8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

Getting the spinning beach ball of death pretty frequently. I've found that force quitting the "Quicktime_OPServer (not responding)" error in the Activity Monitor applications gets me a reprieve from the governor for a while. But rather than doing this constantly, is there something more permanent I could do to avoid the issue all together?

A tip from someone here: Quiting the Avid Application Manager, so it's not running at all. Seems to work, but I haven't tested it long enough to be sure..

It's already set up not to open at all. So that's not the issue.

    But thank you.

Well, after some editing I discovered that closing the appman doens't solve the beachball problem for me either.

Having the same problem here. Glad that force-quitting it clears the beachball, but what's the problem?

Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

    I don't know...sadly.

But I do know forece quitting is  a temporary stop-gap.

I usually find it gives me the ability to save (woo hoo!) ...but I'm safer to then quit the application and restart my system.

After you force quit Quicktime_OPServer you lose a lot of import/export ability.

And the system becomes a little more unstable.

I'm finding that the force quit trick isn't working for me anymore.

I just managed to limp to the finish line with my latest project, it wasn't a paid job so not critical. But, it's still disappointing that it's taking such a long time to find a solution to the problem.

I was kind of hoping the last micro update would rectify that too.

It is REALLY getting in the way of any meaningful productivity. Lock up. Lock up. Lock up. Yuck.

Marianna? Is there any way to accelerate/priioritize this?

Fish ( aka Jeff ) et all.....

I created a case and assigned it to a tech.  I also added all of the folks on this string except JKL32 to the case so you will all know what support finds.

    Case # 02926922

I will be following along on what transpires.

I'm having the same issue with 8.5.1 on 10.0.5, is it present on other combos? Did 8.5.2 fix this?

Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

Having this same issue with 8.5.3, and I see quicktime_OPServer (not Responding) lines in my activity monitor in 8.4.4 (or 8.4.5 whichever is the newest.) Although, I'm able to render out my timeline in 8.4.4 where I get a memory leak while rendering in 8.5.3 and have to force quit the render, uninstall 8.5.3, reinstall 8.4.4 but 8.4.4 only stays stable enough for about 2 weeks before I need to unistall it and move to 8.5.3 again. I'm on a relatively fresh install of OSx about 2 months old.

Avid 8.4 and 8.5 in General have become so unstable lately and losing lots of time troubleshooting instead of editing. I tried to install 8.2.5 and it won't even open after installing. Hoping for lots of bug fixes in the next point release.

Re: 8.5 and Quicktime_OPServer (not responding) issues

I had the same issue with MC 8.5.3 running on OS 10.11.4. As it turns out it was Perian - "the swiss-army knife of QT components" that casued all the trouble. Check if you have it installed on your system. Removing mine solved all problems with Quicktime_OPServer error.
