We are also having this issue on all of our systems. Uninstalled, MC, upgraded to 10.11.3, then install 8.5.
Length seems to have nothing to do with it. They can be 30sec sequences or 1 hour, doesn't seem to matter.
We primarily export to DNXHD or ProRes QT files , full resolution and have consisent problems with it. THe Command+. is not working for us as well.
We are also seeing what others have seen is you might get one export through but the following you have to Force Quit MC.
We are using the same export settings we have used for years without issue.
Dan, I know you don't get an error, but the same exact thing happened to me... looooong render times on just exporting an AMA timeline to h264...
This is how I solved it: http://community.avid.com/forums/t/137563.aspx
It may not apply to you but it's worth a shot.
OK, all...I just experienced this for myself.
I *believe* the issue is trying to export AMA-linked material using a custom QT Export. I have yet to experience any issues when exporting any QT flavor of Avid-media, SAS or custom.
I will submit a bug and report back.
In the meantime, the best workaround is probably to try doing a video mixdown to an Avid-native codec and do your custom h264 export from there.

Hi Kevin:
This is not the case for me, or many other posters. Many have reported the error with DNxHD-only sequences. That has been my experience as well.
Thanks for trying to sort this. Much appreciated.
Best, JIM

Kevin, we don't use AMA at all and still have the issues
I'm having this issue as well. Everything reported in this thread. Please keep me updated.
Thanks,
Ned
OK, well at least I can replicate the symptoms you are seeing with a specific formula. it may very well be the tip of a larger export problem, we'll have to see.
That being said, I have been exporting Avid SAS / h264 QTs with Avid media dozens of times without issue. It wasn't until I tried to the custom export of an AMA timeline that I saw it.
So stay tuned.... Keith or some other Avid folks might reach out to get more info in the near future.
Just putting my hand up to confirm that mixing down to DNxHD makes no difference to this issue if exporting h.264.

Same problem here, i've been running a bunch of web shows off with about a 25% success rate on exports. The Force Quit do it again approach is still faster than the roundabout export methods people have been suggesting. I'm currently exporting a feature length. It seems to be going OK but I don't have a time estimate readout on the export bar. I'll report back in the morning.
p.s. I am exporting from dnx media, no AMA links
I'm having the same problems on a brand new iMac. I can usually get 1 export through without stall-- but not more. I've learned to save often and reboot after the hang-- looking forward to a patch for this.

8.5 on El Capitan
Is everybody on this thread on El Capitan because I'm seeing zero issues on Yosemite? I'm on a late 2015 Retina MacbookPro 2.5GHz i7 with 16 gig RAM. 8.5 is exporting QT's including H264 with zero issues of an AMA's multicam timeline. And obviously no problems with DNxHD.

Can we go back to the way audio nodes used to be selected? Please? ie if you have audio nodes at the same time on selected tracks; then selecting 1 audio node selects them all at that time. Having to shift select nodes or add an in and out is time consuming and counter productive. At least make it an option.
Yes, it seems to be specific to 8.5 on El Cap.
ANyone had any luck finding any workarounds to this?
Thanks
Scott
I did get word that Avid was able to replicate my AMA-linked timeline issue for custom QT exports in El Capitan. While I know some folks are seeing issues with other kinds of exports, it may be the root of a larger issue. Please stand by.
One forum user reported results from - and this might be a little scary for some - removing the P2 AMA plugin from its folder in the Avid Media Composer location.
I couldn't find a P2 plugin in mine and it was suggested I try taking all the AMA plugins out and then copy them back in one at a time to see if that helped but i'd already reverted back to Yosemite.
I have had the problem with non AMA linked timelines so i'm not sure that is the cause but I don't know how Avid works under the hood so maybe it's worth a shot if you're desperate and can't take things back to a stable version.
