Hey all,
Having moved over from Premiere - I'm finding the whole AMA linking / importing a little confusing.
I saw a video that said I had to copy my sequence to a new bin, then click "show reference clips" in the Set Bin Display option. After doing that I needed to rename my AvidMediafiles folder so Avid couldn't find the files I had been editing with (I'm assuming these had been imported as they had the .new extension?)
I now have to go and manually relink because the batch import doesn't seem to be working. Or maybe the procedure I'm following is incorrect?
Also... I'm not sure how to get all my titles back - these were created while editing - so will these be full resolution when created?
PLEASE HELPPP!!!
Avid Media Composer 8.2
Project settings: 1920x1080/25p
My source footage: 3_A_0032.MXF
Within the project: 3_A_0032.new.01
Hi and welcome to Avid, I created some small ama tuts direct out of mouth and keyboard a while ago, might be useful.
If you like them please say thanks in that thread so that it´s not me that have to bump the thread this time

Thanks for your reply, this doesnt seem to work.
My project seems to work with .new files which are low quality files. I'm assuming they've used these to create the files in the AvidMediaFiles folder.
Even when I AMA link to full quality media, then try and relink the full quality media with the sequence it doesn't work - and just uses the proxy file.
Any ideas?
Relinking back to origin should be in the last tut, number 4
Yes, it doesnt seem to work...
Here's a picture of my avid:
Within the rushes folder it has an X50 bin which seems to be proxy files and also an AMA bin.
The problem is, when I follow your process it stays linked to the .new files instead of relinking back to the full resolution AMA files?
Thanks for your help!
Tom
Ok, if you look close at the 4 th tut you´ll see that I have all the origin ama linked media on a drive where no other Avid Media files are situated so I´m just manually pointing towards that drive.
Are you saying that this isn´t working for you or do you have both the ama linked files and the Avid Media storage on the same drive.
If it is the latter just put an X in front of your Avid Media storage to get it all offline, when it all is offline it should now relink to the origins.
Remember to close down Avid and remove the X after the relink
The AvidMediaFiles folder & the rushes are both on the same drive.
After renaming the to AvidMediaFilesxx and attempting to relink once more it still doesn't relink - everything is offline still
I rename AvidMediaFiles to AvidMediaFilesxx
I open avid project - all media is now offline
I create a new bin, copy the sequence in & alt+drag all the rushes into the same bin
I select all, relink, check "relink selected master clip", uncheck "relink to media only from the current project" and hit "OK"
It processes, creates a new sequences and all media is still offline!
Have attempted with "Match case when comparing names" checked and unchecked...
Is the ama linked media online, sorry but have to ask
I actually wrote " in front of " cause of different reasons , it did went offline though and I guess this is what matters
The AMA linked footage is online.
The .new files, which were originally used for editing the sequence, are offline now because I changed the name of AvidMediaFiles to AvidMediaFilesxx
As soon as I change the name back to AvidMediaFiles the .new files are online - but these are poor quality
Ok thanks
Are you sure of that the origin files have the same framerate as the projects , if so you should have got a big warning message when transcoding telling you that relink wouldn´t be possible.
Just compare project settings and origin media properties
Source footage: 1920x1080 50mbps
Project settings: 1920x1080
.new files: 4:1 PAL
I've not had any error messages
Thanks for this amazing tech support - I'm new and clueless why this wouldn't link up!
Doing my best, 50 mbps isn´t a framerate , framerates could be, for example 25 fps or 50 fps , shorted as 25 p or 50 p , there is also 50 i for interlaced that is the same framerate as 25 p .
4 : 1 feels like an Sd format, have you switched to HD before relinking.
