Welcome to the New Licensing Options Forum

    Locked Contact

This Licensing Options forum is the place where community members, partners and Avid employees can discuss important changes to our Media Composer | Software upgrade policy, subscription model, perpetual licensing as well as floating licensing and education offerings.

    The upgrade policy is important!

Customers may be affected by these changes to our policy if their Media Composer | Software license meets any of the following criteria:

    ·       Was not purchased after May 15, 2014.

    ·       Is not covered by an active support contract.

    ·       Is covered by an active support contract that has expired -  end of 2014.

    ·       Is not a subscription license.

If your Media Composer | Software license meets any of the above criteria, then it is important that you are aware of these changes and the options available to you.

Effective back on May 15, 2014, Avid is no longer selling individual software upgrades.

Avid Support contracts provide software upgrades &  support for one (1) year and are available for as low as $299 USD per year.  International pricing can be obtained from your Reseller or an Avid office in your region.

Once your license is covered by a support & upgrade plan, you may continue to run your current version of Media Composer | Software for as long as you wish; you do not need to upgrade your license or your software.  As upgrades become available, you can choose to either accept the upgrade or to let it laspe.  At the end of the support & upgrade period, if you DO let it lapse, the software will continue to run and you may use it indefinitely at the version you last had access too ( this is only for those who have a perpetual license (which you own).  If you have a subscription based license, and you let the plan lapse, you no longer will have access to the license or software.

    Renewal and Grace Period.

To continue receiving new features and support for your Media Composer | Software license you will need to renew your Avid Support & Upgrade plan for the following year from within My Avid.   You will have a 30 day grace period in which to do this renewal.  If you chose to renew early, as we often offer special promotions for this ( http://www.avid.com/special-offers ), the added year will be tacked on to the last day of the existing license.  Example:  If you are set to expire on December 29th, 2017 - and you elect to renew say October 31st, 2017 to take advantage of a special offer, then the tme period on your plan will be added and your expiration date will be one year from December and show December 29 2018 as your new exiration date.

In order to receive software upgrades, you must either be actively subscribed to Media Composer | Software, or your Media Composer | Software license must be covered by an active Avid Support plan.

To ensure you can receive future software updates, you can either switch to a subscription license or purchase an Avid Support & Upgrade plan and keep that plan current.

Questions, post on this forum and the moderators and myself will do our best to answer you.
