This thread has over 30,000 views, is now over 1 year and 8 months old, and there has been no official statement from Avid at all. How disappointing.

I once again just fnished a job that without PhraseFind I would have had to turn down or use another edit system.

Re: Deal breaker: no PhraseFind or ScriptSync in v8.0??

    Arthur, Alan, Johnny, et al.....

    Latest scoop..........

Product Management communicated with Nexidia the other day regarding PhraseFind and ScriptSync.  As you all know by now......  we have been working for a while now with Nexidia to integrate their technology into the MediaCentral Platform. Contract negotiations back and forth in an attempt to get it done.... however......  recently Nexidia technology was purchased by Nice.     http://www.nice.com/engage/press-releases/NICE-and-Nexidia-to-Join-Forces-Creating-a-Customer-Analytics-Powerhouse-405 With that said, Product Management and Business Development have been in contact with the Media and Entertainment leaders at Nexidia and are assessing what this means for our partnership moving forward.   I have been told that both Avid and Nexidia's Media division are strongly interested in an new agreement to bring back PhraseFind and ScriptSync and will continue to work together in the coming weeks and if possible will bring something to market. Just another fly in the ointment but one that we think we can work with. Marianna

I'd disagree, most Production companies I work with in London UK are using V8 because of the improved AMA and LUT handling. Those that need ScriptSync etc just keep one V7 machine on hand.

Yes it would be great to get it back and I'm sure it would see an increase in upgraders but that won't happen anyway uuntil the next support upgrade amnesty (if there is one)

Pat, I think all of this is precisely pointing out just how firm Avid's grip on our proverbial reproductive organs is.

I beg to differ when it comes to having to wait and see for the next upgrade amnesty, you seem to forget that there may be folks that haven't bought into any support contracts because of the disappearance of ScriptSync. Those might be inclined to buy new licenses if and when these tools would be re-introduced.

I for one wish I hadn't paid for my support contracts, especially since I should have suspected Avid would not be able to bring ScriptSync and PhraseFind back for years -- if ever.

Re: Deal breaker: no PhraseFind or ScriptSync in v8.0??

I can appreciate that some client may well have not continued support for lack of ScriptSync and PhraseFind (although if £190 per year is too much of an insurance premium then is Avid and this type of work viable anyway?)

But even if these came back in a future version I can't see users stumping up for the buy new price or even the regular subscription rate. My point was they will wait to see if a deal comes to allow them to re-join support at a reduced fee like we've just had over the xmas break.

While I appreciate that makes sense for Avid to attract back those lapsed users it does little to reward those users who loyally hung in their renewing thier support.

Job - is the ACA still alive?  If so, has this PF and SS mess been brought up there?

I'm not involved with the ACA anymore, so I daren't say.

Multiple times. There has been an official letter from ACE to the CEO's as well.

Re: Deal breaker: no PhraseFind or ScriptSync in v8.0??

well, the last 7 or 8 shows I've worked on for different companies here in Los Angeles have ALL had 6.5 or 7 installed... between editors, AE's and story producers that's about 15 - 20 seats PER SHOW (and most of the companies have had 3-5 shows running at a time).  I have NEVER worked on Avid 8+ yet professionally because we all require ScriptSync for hours and hours of interview footage. AMA inprovements actually mean NOTHING to us... ScriptSync however is everything.

Well, it would be the only way to vote with one's wallet, wouldn't you agree? So maybe these customers decided to let the license lapse out of principle, and not because of the price tag. I for one wish I had, but we have been constantly led to believe a solution was still being worked on. Well, after all this time, it has not proven to be anything but words and somewhat conflicting generic statements -- nobody has anything to show for it.

I would love to stand corrected, but I would have preferred to stand corrected long, long, long ago.

O, and if you're in for a painful laugh:

This info is still on the website today, by the way.

I don't think I'm being off when stating that all of this has been extremely misleading.

I think I'm missing your point, unless it is: "Avid support plans: screwed if you do, screwed if you don't".
