I've just installed Avid Media Composer ver. 6.5.4.2, which to my understanding is compatible with OS X 10.9.2. However, every time I try to add text using the "Text Tool" I get an error message ("Segmentation fault" in thread "MainThread", at address 0x0). Then "Text Tool" will quit.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Same wih me, crashes only when adding text. That's kind of bad if you need to do a titel ;)
I also use 6.5.4.2 and OSX 10.9.2. Any ideas?
Same problem here when I installed to test if my Nitris DX is supported on a non EFI64 MacPro.
Title Tool opens, but just clickin' on its window will produce a Segmentation fault.
Jumped back to 6.5.4.1 and TT works fine.
Fixed the problem in my station. I have 6.5.4.2 installed and I had the same error message. I have reinstalled the app tittle tool only (TittleTool.app) from 6.5.4 versión with Pacifist, and tachan!! Fixed!!
regards.
Sorry for my english.
Hi, just to say that JuanAn's fix also worked for me (27" late 2012 iMac, 10.9.2, AMC 6.5.4.2)
Thanks JuanAn, it was driving me nuts.
Cheers,
Thanks JuanAn,
you´re my personal jesus this week, it´s just amazing! Your hint also helped me out, but I just took the title tool app from another avid MC 6.5.4 installation, so without using pacifist for extraction from the installer.
I just can´t believe it, in recent times it seems to me that updates with software are more likely to destroy everything instead of helping.
Could anyone find a reason for the title tool doing suicide in 6.5.4.2? Or are we just out of luck?
Thanks again,
Felix
Thanks to both of you JuanAn and Longhairman. Got an editor who insists on using 6 because of a specific change to the gui in 7 but our dongles are only valid for 6.5.4.2. Thought I was going to have to explain to her that she would have to choose between the trim tool working the way she wants or having a title tool.Longhairman's version of the fix worked fine for me. Fortunately I'd imaged the previous 6.4 system before installing 6.5.4.2 so it was a simple copy and paste job.

My searching was unsuccessfull :-(

What is editing? It´s the process of transforming a collection of badly focussed or horribly framed shots containing reversed screen directions, flare and dirt into a smooth visual statement of the script... ... for which the director takes the credit!
First, make sure you are using the correct versions.
with 6.5.4.x
Lion 10.7.4 – 10.7.5
Mtn Lion 10.8.2 – 10.8.5
Mavericks 10.9, 10.9.1 (with the 6.5.4.1 patch) 10.9.2 (with 6.5.4.2 patch) 10.9.5 (with 6.5.4.4 patch)
Next the following can cause this kind of an error.
#1. permissions to your drives - check them
#2. Plug ins - drag the plug in folder to the desktop. Try again. If it works, you have a funky plug in and need to do process of elimination to find it.
#3. The Title Tool now runs as a separate application. You open the Title Tool as you normally would within the Avid editing application, but it now runs as a separate process. Possible thus is corrupt?
Give those a try first.
