Wich AMA plugin to work with MKV files?

    Hello there,

I'm trying to link some .mkv files via AMA, but it seems there is an AMA pluging needed:

'Unable to link to file or volume. You may need to download&install the AMA plug-in form the Avid AMA website'

I can't find a plugin for .mkv files in the AMA website or at least, I can't indentificate wich one of those plugins could be the right one.

Does anyone knows wich AMA plugin is needed to link a .mkv file?

    thanks!

Never heard of MKV, and a quick check on Google showed only a free Windows-based player.

AMA plugins are designed by camera operators to work with their footage natively.  Anything else, in general, must work with QuickTime.

I think you'll have to figure out how to convert your MKV file(s) into QuickTime movies.  Then you could AMA them.

Thanks for the quick response Kevin!

A .mkv (aka matroska) it's a very interesting open source container format, acording to wikipedia, you can get the quality of a 25GB blueray DVD in a 10GB file...but being an open source format, I guess is not getting all the publicity it deserves...well,  that's not the point though, he, he...

Yes, to convert into quicktime was the first step of my workflow but I just thouthg that maybe could be an AMA plugin to link this kind of files...

    Thanks anyway!

VLC media player has a Convert function that can be set to keep the original video and audio track when saving to .mp4, which would make conversion faster and less CPU intensive, as you move the h264 video from the .mkv wrapper into an .mp4 wrapper.  Might be worth trying.
