Anyone considering this upgrade, and have any idea what compatibility issues MC 6.x might have with it?

Why not install W8 on a non-critical computer, download the 30 day free trial MC version 6 and see what happens?

Okay. will let you know what happens.
If you are going to test, 6,5 might be a better choice

My understanding is it should work (with V6.5) in theory but it remaisn to be seen how that translates to practice.
Software only mode you will have less issues. I/O maybe more of a challenge due to driver issues.

6 & 6.5 trial worked perfectly fine for me on a windows 8 laptop. Get a message about media player not being installed (which it is installed!!) when loading. Otherwise worked ok.

Thanks for testing and for the feedback.
You may find WMV exorts don't work.
Most likely MC is looking for a particular version of WMP and you now have a later one.
Your correct, Window media is not in the export list.
Just read that upgrade from Win 7 Pro requires reinstallation of all applications. I'm in the middle of feature-length production so will not be test driving Win 8 for awhile. Glad others have tried and reported minimal difficulties.

No big loss the WMV export is slow and not great. Better results via Squeeze.
And for anyone using windows 8 and is missing the start
menu in desktop mode Start8 is the app for you, you can
configure it so the windows key activates the start menu
in desktop mode instead of switching between desktop
and metro interface which is the default, you can also
set it to boot directly to the desktop and not the metro
interface.

As I wanted to get into that html 5 era with my publishings I spent the saturday for updates and sunday - today with trouble shooting, these two latest days together with MS support ( no, I was not on the beta for W 8 )
Bottom line, it´s a laptop system for now, don´t use it for edits, especially not if you are using some kind of dual boot W7 - W8.
Dissapearing optical drives ( sounds familiar, don´t it , they had that also with Vista and W 7 ) and Raids that aren´t compatible between W7 and W8.
Now back to editing on W7, maybe SP 1 for W8 will arrive in a year or so ..
