Re: Does Decklink Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 Supported?

I just received another email from Black Magic stating that they hope to have (my issue) some issues resolved with version 9.2 software. I hope they come out with it very soon since I'm holding on to 6 of these Shuttle USB 3s.

    Steve,

I am pretty sure that the issues are drivers/software related.

    No bandwidth or other issues.

It can capture a 220mb stream without dropping frames but gives delays when just playing out

to a client monitor. The same delays for SD or HD projects.

    I get the error,

    SFPlay Consumer: Execute Timeout.

But then it works and so on.

I can capture fine at my desktop at all resolutions from HDMI (even analog)

with exceptional quality but the playback from timeline suffers.

The really interesting OBSERVATION is that:

THERE IS LESS DELAY with video captured with Shuttle inside Media Composer.

    Almost none.

There is the new Desktop Video 9.2 for Windows at Blackmagic.

Media Express 3.1 and support (with it) for DNxHD playback.

It doesn't play Avid DV files.

Re: Does Decklink Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 Supported?

George, will you try your Intensity Shuttle with your laptop?

Me, i am also looking at the Motu HD Express. Maybe it works better with MC6 than the Intensity Shuttle. But nobody is talking about it's experience with it.

Re: Does Decklink Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 Supported?

I have tried a lot of times.

Captured with MC 6.0.1 even DNxHD.

    Capture with PPro.

9.2 seems more stable with MC 6.0.1.

9.1 was giving me freezes when I was playing back the timeline.

Scrubbing on timeline, playing clips from preview monitor all were great.

When it was playing the timeline it was freezing.

Now I have discovered that you should have at BM (at Control Panel) panel

the first option to PAL when you are on a PAL project.

I don't know if this is the problem but since done that and 9.2 it plays excellent.

Even going from SD to HD within the same project is fine.

There is no p output however at 25 or 1080 projects.

    It turns them to i.

    720p is fine.

All I can say is that for such little money you don't loose anything but 189 Euros.

But at the end it is working.

There are only some errors when playing back the timeline.

I am pretty sure that it's not about bandwidth or computer specs (both my lap and

dek are having the Renesas/NEC chipsets for USB3) but more because

they don't take seriously the Shuttle...

Re: Does Decklink Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 Supported?

My P8P67 Deluxe mobo also has the NEC USB 3.0 controler. Maybe I would be fine. I don't know about my laptop.

But I usually work in 1080 30p. But at least it will display my work in 60i.

I am following the different threads a few weeks before making my final decision.

Re: Does Decklink Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 Supported?

    Sylvain,

Intensity Shuttle plays extremely good with PPro and Vegas (and AfterFX).

    Instant preview, marvelous scrubbing.

BUT the problem is that I don't want to edit there.

Inside MC 6.0.1 it can capture fine even DNxHD.

But it gives consumer errors and some times it freezes.

I am absolutely sure this is not about bandwidth because if it was such a problem

it would also be at the other apps. But it's not.

The problem is at MC6/Shuttle combination.

I have managed to edit a full 55 show within 3-4 days.

I am pretty sure that this would be lesser if I wouldn't have the freezes from time to time.

I am thinking about an Intensity Pro but from what I see I am not sure that this will work also

as the problem is not at the Shuttle alone.

This is an excellent cheap card but it isn't a perfect match for MC6 yet.

I don't know if it will ever be.

But I can and want to have it for my laptop which is an excellent fit as there is no firewire there.

I would go deeper and purchase a Pro some time soon.

If this won't work too then it would be clear that it's not optimized for MC6 yet.

Something I already suspect from the evidences.

I don't know for sure if a newer card as an 560ti would help Shuttle and MC6.

Something I have also discovered is that the problem is more present when there are TITLES above the video.

Hope that helps my old friend (s).

Blackmagic does not have ANY supported Laptops for their USB3 devices yet. For the last 9 months they have been saying they are working on it, but haven't made any progress. I would be VERY careful buying to work with a laptop, I had to send my Ultra Studio Pro back because I got a "Bandwith for installed device exceeds available for port "message. That was with a loaded HP 8540w.

Re: Does Decklink Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 Supported?

I have an HP8760 with a Quadro 3000M graphic card, 16GB RAM and a Renesas controller.  I have just been testing the Shuttle with MC6 and 9.2 and although it is better than with 9,1 I am still getting freezes like George.  The Shuttle works fine on this laptop with other programs but I would not get it for Avid.

On a desktop I have the Intensity pro and that works fine.

    Hi David,

    thanks for the follow up.

    Much appreciated.

So as we see the same problems, the Pro cards plays nice with no delays or freezes?

I would buy another one if it's to work fine with my beloved MC Wink.

What are the specs of your desktop?

P.S. Shuttle works here at my laptop too but with the same freezes as with the desktop.

David, what frame rates have you tested with the Intensity Pro? And what monitor are you using? Thanks!

George, I may be wrong but it seems that Intensity Shuttle has 10-bit processing while the Intensity Pro has 8-bit processing.

Have you heard anything about this? Thanks much!
