Re: MC 6, Symphony 6 and NC 10 scoop

    Hi,

I'm just curious is there will be any leeway on this date:

"You purchased and registered a full, upgrade, or crossgrade (from FCP) version of Media Composer 5.5 on or after October 15, 2011 (register your full version/crossgrade or upgrade)—if you qualify, you’ll get an email with instructions to get your free upgrade"

I upgraded about a dozen or so systems in September (with all the paperwork to back it up) and would really like to be able to take advantage of the upgrades. If I had known MC6 was coming out with an offer like this, I would have waited as long as possible before buying all those upgrades to 5.5. Is there any chance for some flexibility?

None of the moderators can answer that question.  You're better off emailing Marianna Montague directly (marianna.montague@avid.com).  Give her some time to respond, though, as I think she's buried under the weight of all the email she's gotten since yesterday.

Re: MC 6, Symphony 6 and NC 10 scoop

    Marianna,

I just purchased an upgrade from MC5 to MC5.5. As I understand, one has to register V5.5 to be eligible to the free update to V6, and the only way to register is to install it. Personally I use to refrain from upgrading the software while working on projects. I use to wait with the upgrade until I finish the current projects, in purpose of avoiding unnecessary problems.  I suppose I am not the only one.

My question is: Can Avid waive the registration process for the eligibility of the free upgrade to V6 (which IMHO seems to be really pointless) and be satisfied only with the purchase of V5.5 , or alternatively enable registering  V5.5 without installing?

    TIA

Thank you Larry. I just did it. My misunderstanding was originated from this thread:

    http://community.avid.com/forums/t/102167.aspx?PageIndex=4

    Marianna said there:

"The registration occurs through the application so if you buy an uprgade and install it and activate it then you will be in the system."

I think it might be useful to display the registration link on the page that appears right after the purchase and informs the serial number etc. This might prevent further confusion and questions.

That's correct Shlomo, and I apologize for the confusion. Marianna's statement is correct. But that does not prevent anyone from registering their software BEFORE they install it.

Any customers currently holding MC 5.5 software that has not yet been installed and registered can go online and register their software at any time by going to www.avid.com/register.

"Boris Continuum for Existing Customers: Customers who own Media Composer 5.5.x, Symphony 5.5.x or NewsCutter 9.5.x and are currently using Boris Continuum Complete 7 will be entitled to a low cost upgrade." (from Marianna's post above)

What is the verdict of upgrading to BCC 8 for those who did not upgrade to BCC 7, and stayed with BCC6 ?
