Thanks for your detailed answer. Helped a lot. I experimented a little with various settings and managed to get it to look right, although depending on what I used seemed to massively effect the lighting. By this I mean, in the AvidFX comp it would look correct, but as soon as I saved it out, it would look completely different. I'm sure most of this is to do with my lack of experience with the effect.

Thanks again,

1. 3D plane should work without any additional steps.

2. On the position tab controls for the 3d container there is a "Renderer" pull down setting. Set this to "Z Space Composite" This should resolve your issue. I've attached a screen shot below as well as a better description of the renderer options.

About the Renderer
The Renderer menu setting determines how objects within the container interact. The Renderer menu is located in the 3D Container’s Position tab.

•When 2D Composite is selected, the object whose track is positioned highest in the timeline overlaps all other object in the container. In 2D Composite mode, any type of shape track can be placed in the container.

•When Z Space Composite is selected, the object positioned closest to the viewer in Z space overlaps objects that are farther away. Z Space Composite allows objects in the container to cast shadows on one another, rather than producing simple drop shadows. When Z Space Composite is selected, 3D Plane and 3D Sphere shapes can be placed in the container.

•3D Model is similar to Z Space Composite, but it allows you to use 3D Extrusion shapes in the container. However, there are instances when you may want to include tracks that use the 3D Sphere, 3D Plane, Cylinder, Cube, and Page Turn shapes in a 3D Container that uses the 3D Model Renderer. This allows you to apply 3D parameters such as Materials, Textures and Bump Maps to two dimensional shapes. When you use one of these two dimensional shapes in a 3D Model container, the track is called a 3D primitive.

Re: AvidFX Weirdness...

After

AvidFX Weirdness...

Guys,

Has anyone seen anything like this...

I have made a comp in Avid FX (see still), but when I save it and go back into the Avid it looks like this (see second post). Basically, it's showing the Matte.

I'm HD 1920x1080 (25fps). Running lastest AvidFX. I also tried rendering it out of the Standalone with the same result.

Have I just got a setting set incorrectly? Surely whatever I see in my final Comp should be what I see when Exported (all my 'visibility' eyes are turned on).
