Unity workspace

Is there a way to set a unity workspace to be locked in such a way that it cannot take any avid media files? For instance, I have a workspace where all the project information is stored but I don't want avid media stored on it.

I had two of my V12 Meridien Avids hooked up to a hired Editshare for a big, four-month job recently. They did a great job, and it left me considering buying an Editshare. I didn't.

Well, I've just bought a Drobopro for another bit of work, and thought i'd try hooking it up to the MC over iscsi, just to see what happened.

With it not being a Gigabit network card on the PC (which I understand is a prerequisite for iscsi), I didn't expect much, and it turns out 2:1, 3:1 and even 4:1s didn't really work. 15:1 worked like a charm though.

Just thought this information might be of use to someone. It'll let me squeeze some more life out of the Meridien.

difficulties with roller while creating bluray

I have completed editing a 90 minutes film on Avid media composer. Shot using Panasonic P2 1920x1080.it looks fine on the computer but with all attempts to burn to bluray - rolling text appears to create a "shadow" or "echo". I use Adobe encore or Adobe Media Encoder. The rest of the film looks fine, only rollers (about 10 throughout the film) are faulty. Any useful tips to solve the problem?

we bought avid media composer 3.5.

a hp z400, which is avid certified.

it has a realtek sound card.

and we have no sound?

any idea what could be the problem.

Does Avid Xpress (Meridien) support xdcam...

I have an old meridien system an got a last minute project that needs to be edited on Avid. It was shot on XDCam and I want to know if the old avid can handle it before I dig up the machine and hook it up. Oh, and I plan to work only with the proxy files.

Can anyone offer any suggestions... I am trying to capture from a JVC BR-HD50 deck using rs-422. When I auto configure etc Avid does not recognise the deck. I have a Sony HVR M25U which works through the Convergent Systems box & the RS-422 works fine through this & also on my standard Sony UVW-1800. I have the setting "on" in the menu for 9 pin control, does anyone have any experience with this JVC deck, or offer any explanations?

trouble importing an XDCAM clip

For some reason when I'm trying to import an XDCAM clip, I get this error:

XDCamStreamReader::Read - Error reading from essence

it also says to look at the console for more info. It says it "failed to write essence" and "failed to write index table to file."

For some reason when I'm trying to import XDCAM clips into a 1080p/29.97 project, I get this error:

"Exception: std:: exception, what:bad allocation"

Any thoughts on why? I've imported XDCAM clips into other projects before with no problems and I think at least one of them has been 1080p/29.97.

Hi all,

I'm trying to restore a xpress 2.2 avid on a 9600 with mac OS 8. One external drive, a 74 gig, HFS formatted, connected to the atto pci express SCSI card, had the following problem. If I open it, it shows me the media files folder. If I open that one it tries to open but keeps scanning/counting in the end locking up the system.. I checked the folder (apple + I)and it has 3950 files in it. I scanned the drive with Norton 4.0 and it found only minor problems.

Now avid can't save the database files on this drive. So what I did is copy the folder to another 36 gig HFS formatted drive over night. That other drive was "new" and empty. That copy went fine. But next day the same problem on the new drive.

Now I found that Os 8.1 has HFS+ support and is actually the preferred OS for these avids. After the update opening the drive works fine. The whole system feels much more reliable. But avid still can't save to the drive.

I have trashed the database files. Avid successfully can rebuild them and in the media tool I can see all the media on the new drive. But when I close avid it gives me an error. OMFIHPDOMIAN error -36. I checked and this is an I/O error. So avid still can't save the database file. I checked the new drive with Norton 4.0,... no errors. I did some manual copies and do not get I/O errors so I do not suspect the SCSI bus.

I'm getting myself also diskwarrior 2.1 and I'm thinking of doing a fresh install of "OS 8.1 US" as the current OS is French. Second I remember that there was an issue with Norton 4.0 and HFS volumes. It had to do something with Norton trying to change HFS into HFS+ but I'm not sure.

Does anybody out there have any suggestions?

Hi Guys!

Some months ago I purchased via ebay an old Meridien system. I´m a huge reliability lover, so an used meridien system was an logical option ( big mistake)

I have a lot of problems with my vendor, and to this date I haven´t the system working properly.

I have some problems:

- It´s based on a G4. The second LCD monitor won´t turn on. I´m working with a pair of Belina 19" lcd monitors (1024X??)... What can I do to configure the system?

- I bought in the same reseller, 2 avid media drives with 2 HDD scsi 180 Gb... For my surprise when I opened the enclosures there were empty!!! without the drives!!! what model of hdd do I need to put inside the enclosures?

- I have a keyspan adapter mod. USA-28XG, but the meridien does not recognize the adapter. What can I do? perhaps it´s a problem with the OS and this model?

recently i have buy on ebay PowerMac 9600/350 sold as Avid workstation

Have recived the set with some HW cards inside:

1) audio card (cant remember the name , has a scsi connector to wire 442 audio box)

2) UL3D scsi card

3) 0030-00019-02 AVBV with SDI Top Card

4) 0870-00169-03 Janus/Gasket

Then was includes 442 and Video external box , lots cables and 2 dongles

the dongles dump at botom of this message

I guess the 2 dongles not working with this hardware i bought , someone can pls clear

what model is this HW confirguration? 9000 or 1000?

What software versions i can install? i have found MC7.1 on ebay but it shutdown with message no valid

dongle licenses.

Error con Avid Media Composer 3.5.1 MAC

Soy nativo del Avid en Windows, pero tengo un MacBook Unibody 2009, al cual le instalé la versión de prueba por 14 días del Avid Media Composer 3.5.1, el cual corrió de maravilla durante la primera sesión, incluso hasta edité un poco y personalicé la interfaz, muy bien! Pero luego de unas horas volví a encender mi MacBook y el Avid luego de la ventana de carga y todo me arroja un error que no me permite volver a ejecutarlo correctamente como antes, tomé esta captura de pantalla:

Rendering picture in picture error

i'm having trouble rendering my demo reel's picture in picutre effects. I have tried rendering the effects on my computer off of my external hd and also off of a works computer and no dice.

When I try to render I recieve this message: "Assertion failed: FALSE File:\coresw\ame\src\Consumers\Devices\SWCodecMgrlnt.cpp, Line: 4101"

Could someone please help me render!!! I need this demo reel finnished for my website. Any advice would be well appreciated ;-D

i am running windows 7. 7100

8800gts 640mb

amd 64 athlon X2

2gigs ram

2 hard dives that have 250 gigs of space. I just reformatted so i have plenty of space!

I tried both marking an in and out position and rendering in/out position, and individually clicking the render icon. I have tried to render to all drives of the computer.

I split the screen into quarters with each playing a piece I have completed. Throughout the demo reel, I have each quarter of the screen key out to go full screen. I thought that was going to be my biggest problem, but it turns out I can't do anything without figuring out this rendering issue =-{

Let me start by saying, I really hate to put this question out there. But I am really stuck for a solution.

We have been running an Avid MC1000 v.12.0.? (Can't really remember) for several years on a G4 with OS 10.2.8 and continue to be happy with the results for standard def. However, I discovered a while ago that we don't have copies of our latest upgrade (We still have the original v 10 install discs). So to be proactive, I attempted to perform a backup of the OS disc in the event of failure. This did not prove to be an intelligent thing to do.

Once I booted from the backup/archive drive on another machine, I kept getting kernal panics at boot up. I have spent a couple of days trying to track down the problem, but to no avail. I then re-installed the mac OS10.2.8 and got the computer to boot successfully, however Avid will no longer run. I'm sure that something must have gotten blown out during the OS install. Okay, so the backup is a no go.

To continue my attempts to archive our only drive, I decided to give it another go with different backup software. So I decided that a fresh restart would ensure a quality backup. Then the horror hit me. My Main system is now giving kernal panics as well !!! No idea why, I did not install any new software, did not change anything at all. Just ran some archive software that we have had on the machine for years (carbon copy cloner). Now my main machine is in the dumps too.

Here is my plea... Avid no longer supports the meridien systems and AFAIK does not provide download links for software anymore either. Can ANYONE provide me with a link or a copy of Media Composer/Film composer for OSX version 12.0.x ? I hate to ask and would never try to steal software, but we have legit dongles and hardware to back up my story (as well as our original v 10). I just happen to work in a post house that is very bad about keeping track of their software.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME ?????? PLEASE ????

Alternate Video Cards

Hi All,

I'm just wondering if anyone's had any success, installing an alternate video card to drive the source/record monitor? I know that people have installed other cards for the bin monitor, but haven't heard anyone speak of replacing the source/record graphics card.

Anyone?

The reason I ask is that I'm getting a slightly nasty shimmer around areas of detail and contrast in windows, which I don't get if I move the window to the bin monitor.

On an urelated matter, I really do prefer working on these Meridien Media Composers to Adrenaline's... Absolutely rock-solid performance (I've been driving this one hard for a month now, and it hasn't once fallen over), and really responsive too (I couldn't stand that lag on Adrenaline boxes).

Meridien - Still A Rock-Solid Performer?

I feel compelled to write, as I've been working with two Meridien MC12.7's for the past three or four weeks, and wanted to share my experience...

I'm absolutely amazed at how rock-solid these machines are. I've been driving one for nine hours a day, five days a week, and it hasn't crashed once... Not once! These machines are SO robust, it amazes me; I'm used to driving Adrenaline's, and crashing is a daily niggle that you learn to put up with. Not so with this old technology.

And to think, you can pick these up on eBay for buttons!

And it's such a delight to know that when I'm playing a clip and I make a mark with a locator, or mark an inpoint, I know that it'll be placed exactly where I've asked it to be placed... I'm tired of Adrenaline's latency, and the constant need to go back and revise a trim, or edit point that you've made whilst playing back.

Sure, there are downsides... No mixed resolutions, the need to render audio dissolves, and a few others, but I just can't fault these as very reliable, very effective cutting machines. It really is so refreshing to not have to keep pressing save whenever you complete a complex task.

You know, I'd take one of these over an Adrenaline any day, and I'm curious to know what other people think of this 'legacy' kit...

Avid Symphony 5.0.8 issues

Hi there,

Hoping someone can help me out. My boss recently bought an Avid Symphony system at a broadcast auction. its version 5.0.8, and it came with 2 i/o boxes (888 Audio i/o and a seperate video i/o box) i think they are meridien. Its running on a HP workstation xw8000 with Windows 2000.

First off, it didnt come with the cables to connect the PC to the i/o boxes, but I have borrowed a cable that will connect the Video box to the PC and Avid loads with no errors.

On the back of the PC there are 2 SCSI ports and a firewire PCI card. Inside there is one IDE hard drive. There are no media drives, but as a test ive powered it up and given it a source of bars. The video input tool shows the bars are present, but i cant see them when im in the digitize tool.

Thats one problem... the 2nd is how to correctly hook up the 888 audio box.

MC 12 Incoming Video Not Appearing in Edit Window

I've got a PC Meridien MC 12.7.5, and I've noticed that it's not displaying incoming video in my edit window.

I've been through all the settings... four times, but I can't find the button that toggles on/off video you're capturing in your edit window. I'm not going crazy, am I?

It's no big deal, but I just feel happier seeing it coming in, other than on my video monitor (which displays the incoming video , out of the back of the Avid's video output properly).

So come on team... Where's that damn button?

Media composer 3.0 to Symphony 5.5 Meridien

Has anyone taken a project and media from MC 3.0 back to a Symphony 5.5 for final color and mastering?

I have a project captured at 1:1 OMF that I would like to send to a buddy that has Symphony 5.5 to finish.

No FX or color correction has been done to my sequence.

Any issues?

Problems W/ Capture

We are having some problems with capturing video. We keep getting an error saying "capture aborted due to video overrun. Video may be unusable or incomplete. Discard or Keep. It happens with bright video or just at random times.
