This was crucial for me to do. It was only after changing the settings in XP's "Sounds and Audio Device Properties" that I got it to work.

Go back through this thread, and look for screen-caps people have posted of the Windows XP audio settings. Or, as a simpler alternative, I did a thread on this not long ago here: http://community.avid.com/forums/t/57718.aspx

You can ignore most of the thread, just be sure to read my last entry there.

Do they even read the forums? Are they aware of frustrations from user?

Still, I cannot get this to work. I bought a new card and now I'm able to start MC, but there are no soundbars or sound coming out of the system. I have changed to every possible option on the sound card configuration in MC but still nothing happens. I have also a problem with some video files not playing audio in media player, or stutter when waveoutput is choosen.

I'm so sick of errors... I can't work, I can't continue my project. Everything was fine with Xpress PRO. My on board soundcard was perfect and everything went smooth. Using MC is far from smooth. MC should be the little brother of Xpress PRO, not the other way around.

How do I get this thing to work once and for all??

Re: Another Failed to initialize audio hardware thread

Hi,

First, edit your post to remove the offensive language in it, as it violates the forum Terms of Use.

Glans:

I can't play directsound sounds and that has screwed up my system.

What are you trying to play directsound sounds from?

Glans:

I'm getting a little furious here.

I get that, but don't take your frustration out on us. Everyone here is a user just like you. If you want to complain to Avid directly, I'd start with Marianna Montague (Marianna_Montague@avid.com), who is Avid's customer advocate.

good luck,
Carl

Re: Another Failed to initialize audio hardware thread

I bought a Soundblaster Audigy SE card and now I can start Avid.

BUT BUT BUT!

I can't play directsound sounds and that has screwed up my system. In Avid I also can't play audio even though it doesn't shut down. Avid is playing through directsound. After some searching I found one webpage that says that this card doesn't support directsound.

Now, I'm getting a little furious here. The noiselevel is really high, while on my so called on board card I didn't hear any noise at all.

I have gone and buy a soundcard that is supposed to imporve my sound but I'm getting something worse then my onboard card...

How do I fix the directsound issue? Or should I threat Avid until they support realtek???

Sorry to speak harsh but this thing is ******** unbelievable.
Hi,

I've seen a few posts (at least 2 or 3) from people who got Audigy SE cards and that solved the problem, so I'd say it is worth a try.

good luck,
Carl

Re: Another Failed to initialize audio hardware thread

I need to order my card, but I may be able to order with the ability to return if it doesn't work. And I don't have Vista so I don't have to worry about that.

What I do find odd is that I cannot find any online stores that sell Audigy 2 cards, which is weird. I can only find "audigy 2 NX" that is used for laptops.

So, I've found the Audigy SE card but I don't know if it's going to help me.... I'm waiting for answers to that here; maybe if someone else owns it :)

Soundblaster has its own problems with Vista.

X-Fi is a lot more expensive than Audigy SE.

Where you live, isn't there any store to give you the Audigy or another card to test,

or to buy it with the deal to exchange it for something else if it won't work?

I have done this some times with external e-SATA discs till I found out that only an internal in an external case worked with JMicron. Another sad story which I had to find out myself as usual.
