output to client monitor using DVI from adrenaline.

General Question to the group. I am trying to output DVI from an Adrenaline on a XW8200. When I go to the "special menu -> output to DNA Client Monitor" the setting is greyed out and I can't output DVI. Any one else having this issue.

audio tracks messed up

After some copying and pasting and deleting my audio tracks have a bit of a strange structure. I have now the following line-up:

A1, A2, A3, A5, A6, A4 in this order. How can I change that?

And when I click new audio track, it appears on locations that I seem not be able to select. At the moment a new track appears between A6 and A4. How can I choose where it should appear?

HD to betacam with analog Mojo

I only have an analog Mojo and I haven't been able to come up with a way to cleanly downconvert my XDCAM or my P2 HD projects to SD and output it to Betacam. Is there a workflow for this? I've tried transcoding and that doesn't look very good- but maybe I'm missing something.

New boy on the block-Timeline Problems

I have graduated from Adobe Premiere CS4 to MC 4.02 and I am struggling with some basic timeline things.

QUESTION 1

I am using two tracks, of video, in Premiere I could unlink audio and video and bring in the clip (video only) to a timeline. Is it possible to do this in MC? I have tried with the audio tracks turned off, but it does not work.

Can someone put me right on this, I have read the manual and searched it several times but can't come up with a solution.

QUESION 2 - Filler

I have followed the manual and watched Douglas's tutorial on filler and tried to put 2 seconds of filler between two clips on track 1 of the timeline. Each time I do this, it places the filler within clip a and not between clip a & b what am I doing wrong?

I have an Asus motherboard with 4 x 2.66gh quad intel processor, Nvidia graphics card, windows xp pro sp3 with 4gb ram

Avid DVD By Sonic Will Not Save Project

Hi, I know this is probably not under the right topic but I couldn't find the Sonic DVD topic. My tired, weary eyes cannot search any more. I apalogize if I missed it somewhere.

My problem is that Avid DVD by Sonic will not let me save new projects. I am untterly confused. I have uninstalled the program and re-installed it, rebooted and tried other trick but it has all been to no avail.

So, finally I am posting it here in the hopes that someone has heard of a similar problem and hopefully it is simple.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This Error is popping up regularly now with v3.1.1. The Knowledge Base says that this problem has been taken care of with patch v3.5.4.3

...problem with that is v3.5x breaks capture for me from JVC GY-HD200U camera (audio distortion and breaks) so I am forced to stick with v3.1.1 installed from my disk. Some folks on here have reported that the 3.5x patches, and possibly v4.x, still have not fixed the VideoMirror issue.

Why no patch for v3.1.1, or a universal fix for this? Little help Avid?

Video Output Controls missing?

hi guys. i'm needing to calibrate my video output luminance, but i don't have any controls available on the video output tool. i searched but couldn't find any solutions here or in Avid help files. according to the help, i should have controls listed under my "SD Cal" tab... instead it just says "Hardware uses Automatic Gain Control".

i'm using MC 3.0, MojoSDI with a Composite 1:1 (SD) project @ 30i. the Mojo is working fine (in/out), and i'm using an analog waveform scope to monitor the Mojo output (direct via Composite)

the Mojo output is very dark, but i can't get at any controls... any ideas?

Switching Project Formats for Color Correction

I have a question about how MC 4.0 handles things when you switch the project format settings. If I start a project at 720p/23.976 and then switch the 23.976NTSC to do my color correction and then switch back to 720p/23.976, my color corrections seem to go away. The icons still show on the clips on the timeline, but I have to go into color correction mode for each clip and deactivate and then reactivate the corrections for them to be active. The only reason I have to use this workflow is because I am using a mini-DV camera as a firewire deck to send the signal to my broadcast monitor which is only SD. Is it possible to streamline this workflow at all?

Transfer imports to another system

Hi all,

I'm sure this is something quite simple but i can't seem to manage it myself. The problem I have is my desktop, good spec and all, has the neccesary equipment to capture footage, but for some reason is throwing up a whole heap of problems running Avid. My laptop, which is an inferior system but seems to work happily. However, i cannot capture as it doesnt have the required input (USB only, no firewire). I have a project i urgently need to work on so my question is how can I capture on the one system and transfer to my laptop ready to work with. I appear to be able to transfer footage and even entire bins but when I open up on my laptop they are offline again. Help!

entering/exiting effect mode with keyboard in MC 3.5

I'm running Media Composer v. 3.5. When I was using Express Pro, I was able to enter AND exit effect mode by pressing ], the default key. With MC, ] enters effect mode, but will not exit it. I've had to use [ to enter trim mode, and then press it again to exit trim mode and get back to my normal timelime, or else I have to exit out of the effect window. This is a very frustrating little niggle, and I wondered if anyone could help. Assigning effect mode to different buttons doesn't make a difference.

Converting 23.976 footage to 29.97 (1080i)

I am working on a HD project shooting HDCAM. We are thinking of shooting 1080p 23.976 but the broadcaster wants us to deliver a final output with the following specifications:

16x9 aspect ratio, a frame rate of 29.97Hz and a resolution of 1080 x 1920 interlaced (1080i)

Is this possible, if so how is it done??

I have been searching for info pertaining to pull downs within avid.

Previously Onlined Footage showing as Offline

I have been editing a peice for the past couple of weeks and while loading in the project this morning, I noticed that some of my footage was showing 'offline'. These were imported P2 files. As I said before, they were working perfectly fine before today.

After doing a bunch of things that I thought would work, I am now out of ideas. I have gotten the selected files to 'capture media' in regards to the audio, but I am still unable to re-capture the video. No idea why.

I have tried all of my ideas and was curious if anyone else has had a similar problem and/or a solution.

Relinking Transcoded DV to HDCam

A workflow question:

I'm working on a project that's going to be digitized from HD Cam 1080 30i and then transcoded to DV50 30i. The DV50 transcodes will be sent off to be offlined. The offlined sequence will then return to us for finishing. Besides the insane workflow, I have one basic question. If I retain all the original HD Cam footage on our drives, when I receive the transcoded offline sequence, will I be able to relink the HD Cam footage to the offlive transcoded sequence? Or, would I have to batch digitize the HD Cam footage again to the transcoded offline sequence? I raise this question because I noticed that when I did a transcode test, it gave the clip a new name. Thank you for any workflow input you may have.

Trim mode Video freezes

could anyone explain to me, why my video freezes, when I go to trim mode (double rollers/both sides) and want to trim in normal speed? The pictures freezes but the audio runs on. Any idea how this could be fixed?

Regarding proper settings for import of Mino FLIP HD footage

I am trying to import footage I shot with a Mino FlipHD (60min) camera. I have taken the DCIM folder off the camera and put it on my harddrive. Than created a new project with the format 720p/29.97. Imported the footage into a new bin using Video Resolution at HDV 720P MXF. The footage when played back was semi smooth. The footage wouldn't play smoothly. There were film gitters and a clearbar sometimes would travel up the shot when moving. Sort of like a bad trailing problem. I am not sure if the problem is the footage itself or the importing of this specific FLIP footage.

Really would appreciate any help or comments.

AVCHD compatible with media composer?

Hi,

I am considering buying myself a new HD camera and copy of media composer. There is a particular camera that I am interested in but it is a hard disk based camera - I am used to tape and slightly daunted at the thought of spending hours rendering rushes to import them into media composer.

So the camera is a Canon LEGRIA HF S11. I have contacted cannon to ask what file format it shoots and they have said " the video signal is recorded using MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression and the audio signal is recorded in Dolby Digital."

Does anyone know whether I will be able to import this media directly into the avid or will I end up having to transcode everything? I am used to tape workflows and would normally recoil in horror at the idea of shooting data files but I really like the pictures on this camera.

Any help would be most appreciated.

I urgently need help on graphics card problem. Below is the specs of the CPU.

HP Z800 workstation running on Avid Media Composer 3.5.4

-Dual Intel Quad-Core Xeon 5570 Processors @2.93GHz 8MB cache/ 1333MX memory

-NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800 1GB PCI-e video board

-320GB SATA-II 3Gb/s 7200RPM Hard Disk Drive

-Standard AVID memory configuration: 6GB (6 x 1GB) DDR3 1333 ECC memory

Graphics card is with 1DVI out and 2 display port comes with 1display port to DVI adapter.

I have no problem with display port to DVI adapter in a short cable. My real problem is existing editing suite CPU is situated in a rack room. This is a new upgrade set up from 8200workstation. The cable used before 25meter SVGA with DVI to VGA adapter on an FX 1400 NVIDIA graphics card, max resolution is 1680x1050. Now with the new graphics card FX3800 I can attain 1920x1080 on a dell 24" sw2409 monitor with the same cable 25meter SVGA but the second monitor using the displayport to VGA adaptor only shows 800x600 resolution. I tried the old FX1400 card on the Z800 and it can max out resolution of 1680x1050 with the 25meter SVGA. Now my question is, can I use the NVIDIA FX3700 with 2 DVI out as a replacement graphics card so that i can still use the 25meter SVGA cable that the client wants to use?. Though the FX3700 is not qualified by avid to work on Z800. This is actually my last option. Any comment from Avid Guru's is highly appreciated.

Paste to Fill?

I've been looking to see if Avid had a paste to fill shortcut, meaning if you have an animation clip that is 5 seconds long and your timeline is an hour, instead of copy then CTRL+V continously until it fills the timeline, is there a easier way to tell the Avid to loop paste this file over and over to complete the timeline?

From XpressPro on Mac to Media Composer on PC

Hello,

I'm a Sound student. I'm taking a beginners editing class based on the AVID. At school we have Macs running Avid Xpress Pro, at home I have a PC running Media Composer (not the newest version). I try to do my work at home as commuting to campus takes over an hour each way. So for the latest project I transfered the project folder and the relevant media files to my desktop at home and I received the following error message when trying to open the project:

"Unable to Scan the file 'D:\Avid
Mediafiles\MXF\1\001V01.C587CAFB_46C49626EDB.omf'.
The file does not appear to be an MXF File.

Then I get 5 options: Abort, Quarantine, Quarantine All, Ignore, and Ignore All.

When I hit ignore all, the media is offline.

This is the first project to use OMF files instead of MXF, a classmate of mine has a Mac and had no problems opening up the project on his personal Mac using Media Composer.

Is anyone familiar with this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem running an avid mojo with MC 3.5.1

Hey guys, I´ve just aquired a Mojo Analog DNA, the old one though, it only outputs Composite or component signals. I tryed to attach it to my MC 3.5.1 Editing software but I get rare freeze screens on video output. I can capture Composite/Component signals without any trouble. But when trying to playback any kind of resolution the image plays smoothly on my pc but on my Client Monitor it freezes constantly... It shows a few frame and freezes up, then again and again... Anyone with some info about this? will really apreciate your help!

Some media not showing up in media tool

I am clearing some media using the media tool as one of our hard drives in particular, is very full. On our system it's the 'I' Drive I need to clear some space off, and when I open the MXF folder there are over 5,000 files in it. However if I go into the Media Tool and select all media and precomputes on 'I' Drive, the media tool gives me about 1,000 files in total.

We renamed the media files using the console, and I can see in the MXF folder than some of the media is 2 years old and no longer required on the the system, but none of it is showing up in the Media Tool in MC. I also noticed that there are 2 folders when I open the MXF Folder...the usual one named '1' but there is another folder named '2' which contains around another 1,000 files. I'm not sure how the '2' got there and all the other drives we have just have the '1' folder.

I just wonder if having the '2' folder is a problem, and was renaming the media files a problem too? I have tried rebuilding the database files but it's made no difference. I could delete the files straight from the MXF folder but there are some files I'm just not sure about and would rather see them in the Media Tool first!

Any ideas are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Make subclip from a clip in the timeline?

Is there any way to make a subclip from a clip in a timeline? I mean one that will show as a subclip in the bin, not as a sequence... the difference being, if you double-click on a subclip it loads into the source monitor. If you double-click on a sub-sequence, it loads into the timeline and replaces whatever timeline was already there. I could do match frame, but that only gives the in-point, not in and out.

had a break and installed MC3.1.1.

I had no problems with MC3, slight stutter in the composer window when previewing a source through the capture tool in MC3.05, which escalated to un-useable in MC3.1. No apparent interface sluggishness in 3.05 or 3.1. Other 3.1 symptom was an AVIDMediaComposer process that remained running after closing composer (full name of process was truncated in the task manager, all that was readable was "AVID Media Comp...") adn this process was eating up 844 megs of ram. on shut down of the computer windows would hang with a non-responding program: AVIDVideoMirror. "End Now" (force quit) command was necessary to finish closing windows.

In 3.1.1 the stutter in the preview through the capture tool is back to an acceptable level (equal or less than 3.05) interface seems very responsive, but the non-responsive process is back. After leaving MC a check of the task manager shows "AVIDMediaComp..." still running and consuming ram. Force quiting the process from task manager frees up the ram, and allows for proper windows shut down. Otherwise an "end now" is needed on shutdwon.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Why should I use "Preserve Varicam Frames" ?

I looked in the book, and tried searching, but I haven't found anything to answer my issue yet.

I am using MC 3.5, and a Panasonic 1400 deck, and am trying to capture via firewire some DVCproHD tapes shot on a Varicam in 720/24p and the project is the same.

Everything seemed to be working fine, but then I saw that button, and wondered if I am missing out, so I tried it, and it only captured a few mins worth of tape, but it gave me way more than 24 fps, more like 100 it seems. Because of that, the footage plays about 1/4 speed or slower.

So, should I capture in that way, and time warp the footage, of should I turn that off and go along my way?
