It sure would be nice if the Avid Media Composer line had 3:2 Add and Subtract like almost every other professional video application.

Cheers,

Import the HDV clip into AE, create a new comp.

*Footage interpreted as Pixel Aspect Ratio HDV 1.33, seperate fields Off, Use Frame Rate of file 23.976fps.

*Comp set to 1920x1080, Sq Pixel, 23.976fps.

Add it to the render queue

*Render Settings: Field Render-Upper Field First, 3:2 Pulldown-WWSSW (on the right it now says "Frame Rate, Sampling Comp @23.976 fps, Use this Frame Rate 29.97)

*Output Module: Quicktime (1080i/59.94 DNxHD 145 8-bit, Alpha None, Color Levels 709, Millions of Colors, Frame Rate 29.97)

*Avid Import: Image sized for current format, 709, Odd, Ignore

Re: 23.98 -> 59.94

Sorenson won't help.

Do you have After Effects? That can add 3:2.

Or you could use the method noted

http://www.24p.com/conversion.htm

But note that that is not the same thing as 3:2 and can NOT be taken out after the fact the way that 3:2 can be.

It will also look diifferent up against 3:2 footage.
