I have a Samson CO1U USB Mic.
In OSX, it appears in the audio section of the system preferences but you cannot select it with the import function in Avid.

It doesn't appear as a disk or file or sth...

With the Capture Tool or Punch In I can only select the ports of my Mojo SDI (RCA, AES/EBU, S/PDIF, SDI)

I use Apple's Soundtrack to record sth.

Try this.

Open the import tool. Navigate to your USB mic, choose it and start the import function, and see if you can record a test track.

Can you be a bit more specific on the process for this? My Avid does not recognize the USB mic ...

System specs: MC 3.1.1, OS 10.5.6, Mac Pro 8-core Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon/2 GB/320 GB/NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT

Hi dog,

avid is seeing my mic, i can choose it from the pulldown menu in either tool, capture and punch in,

but i´m still not able to record vo´s.

It would be very interesting if this is an intel thing or not.

Yep. Once I choose it as the import source the Avid will see it. I'm in Tewksbury today but when I get back to the office I will check my settings to see if I'm doing anything different on the input.

This is an Intel Mac BTW Kevin, don't know if you are on a Mac or not....I think so but don't remember offhand.

[EDIT] and now that I've hit reply and can see your system specs...you are.

I use a USB Mic to do scratch VO's all the time. Works great.

Interesting...this is probably because there is no "USB" selection in the audio capture tool.

I'll forward it up the line and see if we can get it as a feature request.

Newsflash:

First off: Avid does reckognize the USB Micro but won´t record.

Neither with Capture nor with the punch in tool.

You´ll see the Bars dancing in the Audio Tool while talking but

when you hit rec in punch-in the following message occurs

"there are no input channels currently available for audio punch-in"

Capture tool simply says there is no audio input.

My little workaround is to record my Voice over with CD Spin Doctor coming with Toast 9, (while my sequence is playing)

export the file as an aiff, import that file and doing a final audio mix in MC.

thank you guys, i think it´s worth a shot.

My kinda antique G5 got no mic in,

just line in and instead of using a preamp, i thought of using USB.

as said above, i´ll give it a try and report later...

A USB wireless mouse works with MC. I use the Logitech Laser mouse (USB receiver) with no problems whatsoever.

It's not truth that you can get sound into MC only through BOB. I've got sound into MC through MacBook's PRO internal mic, also there was no problem at all to get sound from mic which was pluged in MBP audio input, but I never tried to use USB mice, though.

The only way to get audio into the system, AFAIK, is to use a BOB (like Mojo, Adrenaline, or one of the new DX boxes) or via FW.

USB is not an option.

I don't know for sure, but since USB mikes and USB speakers have been reported by other users as not working with the Avid application, I would think that would hold true for USB headsets as well.
