i was hoping they were planning on qualifying the most recent QT & OS. i am a long time customer of avid, so i am aware they offer don't qualify legacy systems for new updates, and i am aware they love to bone their loyal customers like myself, who upgrade to 3.x from 2.8 TWO DAYS!!!!! before 3.5 was released to the public. they did not make us aware of this when we bought the upgrade, and they were more then happy to tell us we are screwed, and we have to pay for the update to 3.5, if we wanted it. it is upsetting that avid was not cooperative with us over the upgrade issue, but it would be nice if they would keep the "legacy" systems up to date with current OS & QT releases. i will take avid over FCP any day. i am a strong supporter of the avid software to anyone i talk to, however, avid does have a tendency to mistreat their loyal customers. even those of us who have been with them since their inception and have not crossed over to FCP like many other editors in our industry. at least FCP is product that does support new OS/QT updates.

Re: Are you looking for a certain version of Quick Time?

Not sure who you are asking this question. This is first and foremost a user forum, not an ask-Avid-forum.

As a long time Avid user and owner, it has been my experience that legacy software is not tested in new environments. An Avid system is an Avid system. If you need to update OS or QT versions for other applications, you will need to run MC on its own partition, on the recommended OS & QT. Newer versions of the application will only be qualified for more or less current versions of OS and QT.

That is not a guarantee that it won't happen, just my observation over the past decades.

Re: Are you looking for a certain version of Quick Time?

are u going to update MC 3.1.3 to work with os x 10.5.8 & QT version 7.6.4? i have been waiting for months for you to support them, so i can update my system. are u going to support these updates for earlier versions of media composer? or are we stuck upgrading our MC software to 3.5x or above in order to update our OS & QT?

Re: Are you looking for a certain version of Quick Time?

Apparently yes, thanks for sharing that really appreciate.

Re: Are you looking for a certain version of Quick Time?

Please update us when as you go with 7.6.2. I wasn't paying attention and updated to this QT version yesterday on my 2.8 Mac Pro. I'll try to do the same as soon as I export something.

Re: Are you looking for a certain version of Quick Time?

Updated 6/4/09

There are removal programs out there but the absolute easiest way to back-rev your QT is to do an archive and install of your OS then upgrade only as far as you want. Usually takes about 20 minutes.

Re: Are you looking for a certain version of Quick Time?

Help!
now i have tried to delete it by using AppDelete and reinstall 7.2 but it says i have a higher qt and won't install.

one tech said that's mac for you- you have to wipe your computer and reinstall your operating softare to get rid of 7.5.5
