Also, if after you set up the quote you click the "preview" button at the top of the reply field, you can see what it will look like before you actually post it. To make corrections, click "compose".

Actually, you did it correctly if your intent was to quote the entire reply. If you only want to quote a portion of the reply (as Carl said), just highlight the particular sentence or phrase in the grey "(user name) wrote the following..." text field and then click "quote". You will then see that sentence or phrase with the HTML syntax around it showing what will be quoted.

If what I bolded in your quote refers to actual media files, you can try dragging those media files into a bin - a new set of master clips should be created.

I'll try that. And, I'm tryng to learn this "quote" thing.

When you click Reply, the next window has a section with a kind of blue/grey background that shows the text of the post you're replying to. Right below that is a button that says Quote. If you click it, the entire text in the blue/grey box will be quoted. Or you can click and drag to select some of the text in the blue/grey box and press Quote, and only the selected text will be quoted.

First...off track here...but I still don't know how to "quote" something you said.

Regarding the busting chops...they're already busted. I looked and looked for thos clips (the ones I didn't recognize in the media tool) in all my bins and couldn't find them. I still don't know how this happened but when I used that command, "select unrendered titles" I was not doing it as part of a consolidation process. I was trying to clean up my drives and make some more space. Anyway...I don't plan to use that command ever again.

My intent was to consolidate the finished sequence. All the clips in all my project were now part of my sequence. There were no "outstanding - unused" clips. The first thing I did was to highlight my sequence(s), open all bins, select "media relatives"; select "reverse selection" then delete the "reverse selections."

That seems fine so far. Personally I might have consolidated first and then deleted unused media, but that shouldn't have any bearing one way or the other on the outcome.

When I started the consolidation proces I had to stop (cancel) it because I had given the command to link to the target drive (and I wanted it to remain linked to the original). It stopped, I checked or unchecked whatever to make it link to original drive and started again.

I think this might be where things started to go off track. Had the consolidation been going long enough to start creating new media on the target drive? When you restarted the consolidation, did you select Skip Media Already on Target Drive? Depending on whether you did or didn't, you could've wound up with some linked media on the target drive from your first attempt and some unlinked on the target drive from your second attempt. Or possibly with both if you told the system not to skip files that were already there.

Had I been in your shoes, I'd have double checked what was where after stopping the first consolidation attempt. (Not trying to bust your chops, just saying how you might have avoided trouble.)

Nothing in the "L" drive, the new drive with the consolidated clips got highlighted with this command. So I thought I finally figured out my question about these 75 misc. clips. Since the consolidate command did not move them to "L" then I guess I did not need them. So I deleted them - and only them - and when I looked at my sequence and all my bins, half the media (original & newly consolidated clips) was gone...

As far as "Select Unrendered Titles" goes, that's one I haven't run into.

I've never used this command, but I assume it does just what it says it does. If you have any titles in a bin that aren't rendered, clicking on Select Unrendered Titles will select them. In your case, I'm not sure what was selected when you ran the command, or how you wound up selecting half of your media files. Where did you get the idea that Select Unrendered Titles was a needed step in consolidation? Again, not trying to bust your chops, but I've never seen anyone recommend using that command for anything, and I'm curious where you got the idea.

Overall, it sounds like you weren't sure what the clips were that you were deleting. I might have tried finding the clips in a bin and playing them to see what they were and make sure I wanted to delete them before doing so.

When you consolidate a sequence, you don't get the second window with the "master clips remained linked to original media" options as you do when you consolidate clips only, so the sequence will be linked to the new clips created on the target drive. In this case for your workflow, you would want the system to create a new sequence when consolidating, linking that sequence to the new target media and leaving the original sequence linked to the original media.

When consolidating sequences, it is not necessary to go the media relatives and reverse selection route - I think this is where you may have been tripped up with the unexpected media offline issues.

As far as "Select Unrendered Titles" goes, that's one I haven't run into.

This would indicate that the associated media file of the master clip was deleted but the pre-compute file of the rendered effect created from that clip remains. If you attempt to do anything to those pre-computes in the way of changes, they will go offline.

Was your intent to consolidate finished sequences or the entire project, all source media included? If sequences, once a sequence is consolidated to a different drive, you could delete the original sequence and it's media on the original drive without affecting the newly media files.

If you're consolidating clips, you'll want to choose the option "master clips remain linked to original media". That way, you'll have two discreetly separate sets of clips and media, one set on the original drive and one set on the target drive. You could then delete the clips and media on the original drive, once you've verified the consolidation process was successful.

I finished a job and wanted to consolidate. The original job files were on "K" and I wanted to consolidate to "L"....

Prior to consolidating I looked in media tool because there were a number media icons that popped up when I clicked “select unrendered titles.” I wanted to see if those particular pieces of media went to the new drive on consolidation. If they did not - then I would assume I could delete them from the original drive.

When I consolidated I sent media from k-L and told it to link to original drive.

After consolidating I opened the media tool and sorted by drive.

Again I clicked “select unrendered titles” and only media in the original drive (K) was highlighted. Nothing in the drive I had consolidated to – the L drive, was highlighted.

So I deleted the highlighted “unrendered titles” in the K drive.

Went to my timeline, the sequence is linking NOT how I told it but with the target drive. And every piece of media (audio & video) is gone in both drives . In the media tool it only shows any media with an effect on it.

I'm glad the job is over and I had at least made a bu dvd & tape but I wanted to save the actual files.

What did I do wrong???

I actully have the clips and audio in another bu place so I guess I could individually import them (all clips are stills) back into the timeline.
