I am thinking of buying this Flip Camera HD and wonder if the video can be imported in to Avid. The files are H.264 video compression, AAC audio compression, MP4 file format. The standard def version of the camera is Advanced Profile MPEG-4 AVI.

Anyone heard of MVL_Insufficient_Space error! I'm stuck! help!

Hi!!

I have been trying to export to OMF to give the file to a sound editor and every time I export, it starts doing it and then I get "MVL_Insufficient_Space" error.

I have 140 GB available in the target drive and I also tried to export to desktop, where I have 40 GB available. I did change my avid user name as I read in one post, I get the same error. At one point after getting the MVL_Insufficient_Space" error, I tried to reopen the program and I got an avid message that said, "Mac Error -108 (Not enough room in heap zone)

I then discovered I had some media files on my internal mac drive, I cleaned those off completely, now the program opens fine after the "MVL_Insufficient_Space" error, but still I can not export to OMF. I am only trying to export a small portion of the project as a test, about 5 minutes, 6 tracks of audio.

I am using avid xpress pro v.5.7 on a mac book pro, 2.33 ghz intel core 2 dui, running Mac version 10.4.10. Using a Lacie quaddra hard drive for media.

Please help me, this is the last big step of a project I have been working on for a very long time! Thank you in advance.

THE PROCESS I HAVE BEEN USING TO EXPORT IS AS FOLLOWS, from another post from this forum: Duplicate fine cut to an export bin. Close fine cut bin. Go to media creation settings and uncheck 'system drive'. Back to export bin, delete video tracks. Go to file export, and in options, select Export as omfi 2. Check 'Include all audio tracks in sequence'. Export method - Consolidate Media. Check 'convert audio sample rate' box and select 48khz Check 'convert audio sample bit depth' and slect 16-bit Check ,convert audio file format to' and select AIFF-C Finally, select 'Embedded in OMF'. Save as, and save setting, then save - I usually save the omfi to the desktop for dvd burn.

dongle issue

Hi All,

I purchased an AVID Xpress DV 3.5 Mac version that included the dongle and software DVDs.

The numbers on the dongle did not come up as valid numbers on the AVID registration website, however after probing further with a dongle dump, the MAC system id and serial number did come up.

I've since learned that systems are registered under the PC numbers.

Since the dongle numbers are inaccurate and there is no system card attached to the dongle, is there anyway of determining the PC system ID for this system?

Hi ,

I have MXF files stored on my G-raid and I am not able to play a file if I drag it from the G-raid onto the desktop.

In final Cut Pro this can be done by using the quicktime player to play the file.

Is there a recommended player that can be used to play the MXF files on my desktop ?

progressive export

Hi All

I am exporting a 8 bit uncompressed QT and was wondering if it is possible to export it as a progressive file. First because all the material came from so many sources I did a mixdown to try and neutralize any possibility of conflicting field dominance. All the material originates from an NTSC source but was digitized DV 25 and 1:1. When I examine my options in the export window I can chose "Single field" will this setting provide me with a progressive output ? The purpose of the output is for my web demo site and I have been having alot of motion artifacting and what seems to be interlace issues when I create a flash file using my Sorenson. Also does any one know a definitive article on using sorenson to create flawless flash files from avid sequences ? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi i have just recently started using avid again, but for some reason when i play the time line the source and record video wont play properly, when i play a clip the audio plays ok but the video freezes, but it updates the picture when i stop playing? Can somebody help please.

Because I did not want to run an ethernet cable to the room I have my MC set up I purchased a USB wifi card for my desktop. I installed the USB wifi card after installing Avid MC.

Turns out by doing this it deactivated my MC and I had to call Avid to get a new Activation Key. After many attempts it turned out I had to unplug the USB wifi card while I had MC launched. This allowed MC to once again work. The AVID tech then told me to de-activate MC, close it and then plug in the USB wi-fi card. Then re-launched MC and AVID tech gave me a new activation code. This time it worked.

So if anyone is thinking about a USB wi-fi be advised! At the time I thought it was a good idea. But if for any reason I unplug the USB wifi it will deactivate my MC prompting a call to tech support.

If I could capture in DVCAM quality is fine but I'm not getting contact with the deck (maybe it is a setting on the actual Sony deck?)

I am running MC 3.1 on a MAcbook pro 17 inch, 4gig ram

OMF EXPORT ERROR - please help

I'm having a problem exporting an OMF 2.0 file from Avid Xpress DV 3.5 Mac.

I am trying to embed the files. I broke the cut up into <2GB sequences.

When I hit export, I get the following error message:

Assertion failed: readSize <=fileRemaining

File: FileInputOutput.c, Line : 602

When I click "Debugger" it says:

Exception: "DISK_EOF"

Any suggestions? My sound editor is waiting for the export and I'm really pulling my hair out over this one!

720p 29.97 HDV Project??

Hi all, I’ve searched around on this issue and have got some insight but still need some help if anyone has any suggestions.

I just shot footage for a doc on P2 cards at 720/29.97PN to edit on Xpress Pro 5.7 and then later upgrade to MC. However when I go to start a new project the closest settings it gives me are 720p/29.97 HDV. It’s the HDV part I don’t really get because when I bring the clips into that project I can see in my headings under Video that the format is DVCPro HD 720p/60. FCP doesn’t interpret that format as HDV but I don’t want to edit in FCP.

I then tried a test with a new project at 720p/59.97 but it tells me to transcode the clips first as they won’t read. I went back to my original 720p/29.97 HDV project and tried to transcode a clip to the selected format of DVCPro HD but nothing seemed to happen. There was no new transcoded clip to bring into the other 720p/59.97 project. Is this because the clip is already a DVCPro HD clip?

Thirdly I opened another test project under the 1080i/59.97 settings and the clips play but I read on a thread that because DVCPro HD including P2 uses a Thin Raster I will have to transcode to DNxHD to avoid dropped frames. I haven’t worked in the DNxHD format. How will this affect my footage and online?

The main thing I don’t get is the HDV part of it. Will Xpress Pro change the DVCPro HD format of the footage to HDV if I edit in the 720p/29.97 HDV project? Or is it just that it won’t be able to spit out a DVCPro format at the end? What gives with the HDV label??

Any help or suggestions would hugely be appreciated.

Hello to everybody, I've just subscribed this forum and I want to give everybody a virtual handshake hoping to be welcome.

I've just finished a video-editing school where I learnt how to work on Avid Xpress. Now, as the school is over I would like to start working somehow, but as everybody knows, starting is hard, so I bought Macbook pro Intel 2,4 Ghz running Mac OS Leopard 10.5.6.
Then I found a cheap used version of Avid Xpress DV 4.1.1 and I just wonder if I can buy it or not, because I don't know if it will work.

So my question is: can everybody please tell me which Avid versions will run safely on my Macbook intel? My problem is that with my budjet I won't probably soon be able to effort a brand new Media composer, so I thought about starting with an older and chaper version and then buy the upgrade to Media Composer 3.0.

Best Avid Version for Mac 10.4.11

As a reult of a facility change, I went from using Avid to FCP about 9 months ago. Now I am freelancing again and I wanted to upgrade my old Xpress Pro (version 4) to something that will work on my Mac at home (10.4.11, Dual 2.5 GHz Power PC G5, 4.5 GB of RAM, Quicktime 7.5. I would rather not upgrade to Leopard if possible as everything else is working great). I have been nosing around all day and having a tough time finding what exactly I should upgrade to (it appears that 5.84 Xpress Pro would work but apparently you can't purchase that anymore). I don't need the system to be "session-fast", I just want to get back on the interface for a few days so that I am comfortable when I get into an Avid room (i used Avid for 8 years before the switch to FCP so it isn't about learning the software so much as getting my Avid sense back so I am not slow the first few days).

Any help would be seriously apprecaited as I am starting to tear my hair out a bit...

Ok, this might sound like a really dumb post, but I am a shooting AP, and have not actually edited myself for a few years, so am a bit rusty, and also I guess I've always had techie support.... But I am pretty computer literate, used to be really competent on Avid, and thought it would all come back to me when I played around with it.

I have a pretty new MacBook (6 months old), and Avid Express DV. I am doing some editing at home and this is the first time I've used my Avid, having installed it a few months ago.

I have borrowed a drive and a Sony DV player from work. My rushes are on mini DVcam. It seems to be all connected up properly, it recognises the drive and the DV player (ie I can rewind, play etc the tape in the DV player using the controls on Avid).

But when I try and import, I select the video and audio track, hit record, and I get the error message "No input signal present", then when I hit ok another error message pops up "Exception: DIO Producer- vcID does not match incoming video, newVCID:141".

Please can anyone tell me what this means and how I can rectify it?

Will be extremely grateful for any suggestions ASAP!!!!! (Yes, I am genuinely excited about spending my Friday night editing- I do love it when I can actually remember how to get started!)

MOJO SDI - Sound Parasites continue

A few months ago, I wrote to the forum about a sound parasite problem that emitted from all our MOJO SDIs when connected to a MACKIE 1202 or SOUNDCRAFT mixer. After alot of very helpful advise, I thought that I had got to the bottom of this by removing the earth socket via an adapter from the mains socket. It worked, sort of. The problem has returned but this time the sound is just a high pitch squeal. What is strange is that it only happens when the MOJO SDI & the mixer are connected. It does not happen when either the MOJO or the mixer are connected independently to the speakers. The MAckie is only used as amp for the GENELECs so it is not feedback. When I replace a MOJO analog or an adrenalin for the SDI, it does not happen.
It happens on all output channels including the headphones. It have changed all the cables and the mains units. I was wondering if swopping from XLR cables and back would change something but to no avail.
I wonder if it is not a minijack issue (god knows who had the idea of putting minijacks on a mojo) but this idea has no substantiation.
Any ideas?

does mpeg50 need to be used with esata or sata connection?

Hi,

I am using media composer 2.7.5 with Tiger. I have 2 gigs of ram. I have taken over a project that was digitized at mpeg50. I am using two external hard drives that are connected with 800 firewire cables. One is a g-raid 1 terabyte drive and the other is a free agent TB drive

I'm finding that while I play footage and then cut, my avid locks up and then I have to force quit as it is not responding.

I was wondering if you can use the 800 pin connections or have to use a esata connection, and if this is possibly why the avid keeps locking up.

Application binary file corrupted, please reinstall the system?

Hello:

The fun never ends. I am trying to use projects that were created on AVID DV. When I open any of the projects that were created I get "the application binary file has been corrupted, please reinstall the system".

Why am I getting this? What can I do to correct the projects? Is there a file or files to delete?

Hello:

Ive seen this error message on other Posts: I just bought a NEW 15" Mac BookPro 2.5 4 GB mem running Boot camp with XPPro. This is supposed to be an AVID certified system according to the web site. I'm having a problem launching Express Pro 4.3. Since the audio card was not an upgradable option this is the card that I am stuck with. If I disable the sound card from the system then the application will load. Is there a driver fix? I am trying to run the AVID on the Window platform.

export to DVD looks bad

I am having a heck of a time getting a good DVD out of my Avid timeline.

This is a 16 minute video in length and 4:3 standard format.

I am exporting like this:

open export box, select DV stream, select 601,select odd(upper ..)

I save and export.

Then i drag the dv file to iDVD, author the DVD,and burn it in iDVD

at Best Performance Setting, and 4x speed. II've also tried 2x speed.

I have also tried the other method of burning a disc file first, THEN opening it in Disc Utility,

and burnig it there. Same thing, bad picture.

The end result for both methods is a DVD that looks okay EXCEPT for the parts where the camera

pans or tilts or where there's movement. It gets kinda blurry, almost like seeing double.

it makes me dizzy to watch.

Any suggestions on what I am doing wrong and should do to get it right

are greatly appreciated.

bad jitter when camera or subject pans in DVD output from Avid MC

I'm working on a MacBook Pro, with Avid Media Composer version 3.

I just finished a project and exported to iDVD, "export for DVD"

from the dropdown menu in export.

The finished product shows jitters when camera pans or moves

and also subject moves.

Video was shot in standard 4:3 format, but I'm exporting it as 16:3 for visual effect.

Don't know if that has anything to do with it. But the 16:3 screen looks fine,

it's just the jitters when there's movement.

Anyone know how to fix this?
