I definitely second this feature request. I agree that the ability to add or remove pulldown in the file import window would be a HUGE benefit.

Absolutely.

To be honest, whenener I need to convert anything, I either use Streamclip - or when Sync/Duration is not an issue - the old 'IgnoreQTRate True' console command. Avid's import filters have really improved, I think. This is great for the occasional piece of file-based archive, but not much use for a tape workflow.

To be quite honest, any project where I felt I was going to need 3:2 add / subtract, I would probably want to be in DS because of much more powerful effects and compositing tools.

The reasons I was looking for the tools in MC was to deal with the various different frame rate clips you get these days.

Does that make sense?

Can you tell me how it compares to the one in the DS. We don't get much call for that kind of converting in ours.

Hey Ra-ey,

I just redid my test on this. Realized I had done things wrong.

I take back my comment that the 3:2 add / subtract tools don't work. In fact they do. I am sorry for the mistake.

So thanks for pointing these tools out Ra-ey.

Now .... Let me modify my original request.

3:2 add / subtract needs to be integrated into the transcode tools. This would be a small step towards the goal of having the ability to mix frame rates in a project, which is one of the biggest holes in Avids timelines now. This would not solve all the issues, but would surely help.

Hi,

Thanks for pointing that out. I thought I had messed with those a couple of years ago and found problems. So I just retested.

I took some 29.97p material I had. I burned in a TC window which showed fields (even though no fields in source). I added the Pulldown Insertion. It did not created the correct 2:3 sequence or any proper result that I could see.

In fact, results of both Pulldown Insertion and Pulldown Removal seem horribly wrong.

Now maybe I am not using them correctly. But I use the similar tools in Avid DS regularly. They work as expected.

These don't. I call bug.

But thanks for reminding me of them.
