Helo,

It's the first time I encountered this.

For some reason, I cannot edit or reply on a post that I did.

any ideas?

Please Add an AVCHD Forum

There are a lot of posts concerning AVCHD. The Files and Formats section is not overly crowded, so how about adding an AVCHD forum?

It would serve as a great clearinghouse for AVCHD knowledge and take some pressure off of Avid to provide native AVCHD support.

Thanks for considering this ;).

P.S. I realize that the community is going through changes due to the BU integration and that more forums add more demands on the server... but just one little forum.

Website slow - many errors

I'm noticing this morning that this site is running VERY slow, and clicks to several links including "Media Composer 3.0" and "no audio when patched through..." result in an error screen.

Cannot read any text from knowledge base

Someone keeps posting Spam messages about google, the mafia and child pornography. I click the "Report Abuse" link, but it certainly doesn't stop this person (or automated system) from creating a new user profile and re-posting the same nonsense.

Isn't there a way to initiate a member "approval" process before a new person can post? For example, first-time posters who are registered owners of an Avid product should be able to post without such approval requirement. But, first-time posters who are not registered product owners would be subject to having their postings approved for content.

That would hopefully quell some of these Spam posts, while still giving someone who may need quick 24 hr access to the forums the ability to post without delay.

something buggy with portfolios

When I click on the "Portfolios" tab up top it works fine, but if I click on a letter link it doesn't work right. For example if I select 'P' I get a few names that start with 'p' and other names that contain the letter 'p.' Might be a glitch if someone has a chance to check it out.

Problem logging in ... and getting help

My name is Matt Clifton - I'm writing under my wife's login, which works just fine. Mine does not. I was able to log in and post a couple of years back, but I don't recall my password, and when I use the "forgot password" link, I get to this page:

I just found an email from 2005 with my Avid communities password; I was able to update my profile through this link: http://www.avid.com/cgi/authentication/login.asp and change my password, but this new password does not seem to work on the forums. When I updated my profile, I received an email which includes this line: "Forget your password? Enter your email address at http://www.avid.com/community/personalize/forgotPassword.asp and we'll email it to you" ... but this page does not exist! I'd be happy to delete my user and create a new one if need be, but since my user name is my real name, I'd really like to be able to use it. I've tried using both Safari and Firefox on Mac OS X 10.5.8, and have cleared my cache.

The profile-update email I received also includes the line

"Should you have any suggestions, comments, or issues regarding the
Community areas of Avid.com, e-mail communities@avid.com"

So I just tried emailing the above to "communities@avid.com" ... only to have it bounced back, address unknown.

Is there some legacy communities code which needs to be pruned out? And can anyone help me to recover my login?

As of approx 4:30 PM Eastern, I am no longer receiving email notifications - either other user's replies, or those annoying duplicates of my own. Anyone else seeing this?

"Start a Conversation" where's it go?

I had a couple questions for Forum Members that I sent with the Start a Conversation tab in their profile.

But now I realize there doesn't seem to be anyway to see if they were alerted 'bout the message.

Moreover how do I know when they've responded?

I guess my question is, does the "Start a Conversation" even work?

When I wanted to read posts in threads that I started, I used the general search possibility, typed in my user name and voila, all my threads were listed. When I wanted to return to some specific threads, I just typed in my user name and a topic. Worked fine. This is unfortunately not possible anymore. I get lists with threads I have never even participated in. Did something change in the search engine? Is there another way to find your own threads without having to scroll down many pages?

Firefox 3.5 released - seems to work fine with Community

This idea came up in another OT thread, so I thought it might be a good idea to move it to here. One thing we are seeing more and more of on these Forums are posts that have a negative tone, and posts that tend to be unprofessional on a variety of levels. As we all have seen in the internet age, the "cloak of anonymity" tends to add bravado and "edge" to what otherwise should be a professional, rational conversation. Of course disagreements will happen, and a healthy discourse should be encouraged. But more and more we are seeing posts that are leaning the other way.

I feel that if we required full names and company names for each user of these forums (of course you can lurk all you like, but to be an active member, names would be required), at the very least in the user profile, it might just weed out the folks who post some of the more ridiculous things and lend an air of professionalism to the forums (as Kenton and Larry noted in the earlier thread). It will also give the reader a better idea of who they are dealing with and what kind of work the "poster" does when answering a question or joining a conversation. Like I stated above, if you would rather not use your name, you can lurk and read but not be a contributing member (there are other forums out there that do not require that, I would imagine).

Just a thought....

Small Sugestion - Nav Bar

Picky one, but would it be possible to put a duplicate nav bar (like the one above that says Forums>>Site Feedbac>>etc...) at the BOTTOM of each page too? Lazy reason being that you ususally end up at the botom of a page when reading a thread and it would be nice to be able to navigate straight away without having to scroll up to the top of the page....Picky, picky, I know! :-)

The first post, which says it was made at 9:20am (UK), was actually made at 2:20pm (UK), but the forum software put it first because that's when it thinks it happened. I don't know if this is system-wide, or just a problem with my profile.

If I could just have a mini-rant here for a minute, I know next to nothing about forum administration, but I'm active on three forums, and neither of the other two have the constant flakiness that this one has. One of the forums is running on Simple Machines software, and the other on phpBB, and neither of them has anywhere near as many problems as the Telligent software this forum runs on.

That's to take nothing away from the hard work that the Avid Community Team is doing, and I appreciate it wholeheartedly, but it's been a while that we've been on the new forum software now, and I'm not impressed with it.

Hi Avid,

have a suggestion for a new forum heading or chapter :

"Media Composer - Vista64"

Get a well configurated Composer System to run. And this on no certified hardware :-).

Woulkd like to change about the expierence with other user, to tweak up the operating system and want to have the ability to learn from each offer expierences.

Think problems in Vista 64 are very specific, so there it have to be an extra heading for this.

Cannot log in with Firefox

Having a developing problem using Firefox 3.0.10 and 3.0.11 from 3 different PC's.

I can browse all forums, navigate into any post in the forum fill in the login details but the sign in button will not do anything. IE from the same machines has no problems.

Suspect the issue may be with the insidious AVG toolbar or a setting in it (latest AVG Server edition). My AVG toolbar is hidden (using the view menu and turning off the display again after a week in the AVG options)

All the caches etc have been purged several times.

Any insites would be appreciated Thanks

It would be nice to have an active link for "Latest Post" on the header of page 1 of any thread, so that when clicking on a thread from "active" or "unanswered" or "my discussions" we could go directly to it. Thanks.

correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't been in the forums for a few months, but i remember that before when i did i search and click on one of the results of that search I was able to read the full thread related to that post, now i'm only able to read the specific post, so for example I can read a post saying "...please help with graphic card..." but i can not acces to the reply to that post. Am I making sense? is there anything that I'm not doing properly?

sound mixing on the fly

It would be great if we could adjust audio levels in the timeline with the audio mixer and not have to stop the sequence every time we click on audio mixer. It can be done on other programs I wont mention names but it's a great feature. If there is a way to do this I don't know how and would love to know how but I don't think there is. I know you guy's can do it your the best.

Yes, every now and again it seems that this message can appear when you are trying to read a post or trying to post a reply.
Over the New Year it has been quite a problem for some.

Here are a couple of tips (I think that they are already posted elsewhere.... but it can be useful for anyone not having met this problem before)

If you get the "Sorry there was a problem with your last request!" message when you are logged in and try to read a thread.... 1) Logout then 2) Try again and you can usually read threads with no problems.

If you want to reply to a thread when the "Sorry there was a problem with your last request!" is popping up:

1. Logout
2. Open the thread
3. Find the post in the thread you want to reply to
4. Click "Reply"
5. You will be informed that you have to log in before you can post>
6. Login again
7. You should now be taken to the reply window.
8. Write your reply
9. Click on "Post"
10. You will probably get the "Sorry there was a problem with your last request!" message again at this point.
11. Ignore it.
12. Go back to the Forums and you should find that your post was actually uploaded, despite the "Sorry there was a problem with your last request!" message.

It seems that if you are logged-in and go to "Create a New Post" that will work without the error message coming up.

This community is very helpful in my career. I realy appreciate it.

I just want to ask about message compositon interface. The bullet/number list does not work since I joined the forum. Is there a special setting for this?

I'm using Firefox but also tried Safari. The bullets shows up fine in the edit mode but it always dissappear when you post it.
