With all due respect, this is an Avid user's Forum, where user members help each other find solutions to problems. It is NOT a rant blog page. With very few exceptions, the people participating here are NOT Avid employees, they are users just like you who generously volunteer their time to help others here. And as such, your comments and tone are inappropriate for this Forum. If you take some time to do a little searching under "Realtek", you will find volumes of threads that deal with this issue and have provided workarounds. Comments like yours should be sent directly to Avid at customersupport@avid.com. They don't belong here.

Re: Error: Exception: ADM_Dsound_mixer_open_error

Stupid software! I've got Avid XPress Pro HD and I get the same ridiculous "ADM_DSOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR" problem when I try to run it. My sound setup is Realtek and it's perfectly good when editing in ULead, Adobe Premiere, Moviemaker, Pinnacle and all the other software I've used over the years, but for some patethic reason AVID software doesn't like it!!!

I would have expected Avid software, being so expensive, to be flexible enough to be compatible with everything that the lower end software works with! This is a ludicrously stupid problem that could have been resolved with a bit of forethough from Avid and some more talented coders. But no, instead we're told to go out and spend more money on hardware instead OF THEM FIXING THE PROBLEM - after all, it's AVID'S software that's flawed, not mine or other users' system setups. If it was our fault, how come loads of other software likes Realtek????

I am also told that if I ever get this software working, I will find that it might not like the 32K audio HD footage that I have shot on my Sony HVR-Z1E HD videocamera! What exactly DOES this software like?!?!?!?!?

I get so angry with lame, sloppy coding in so-called "professional" products.

So, my request is this - AVID: RESOLVE YOUR BUGGY SOFTWARE BY PROVIDING FREE PATCHES. WE'VE SPENT MORE THAN ENOUGH MONEY ON YOUR SOFTWARE SO NOW IT'S UP TO YOU TO FIX THE PROBLEM.

According to the post below, you can use Xpress Pro HD 5.2.1 with a Realtek card if you update the drivers.

http://www.avid.com/exchange/forums/post/80459.aspx

As you move up the Avid product line from Free DV to Xpress DV to Xpress Pro and Media Composer, the hardware requirements get more specific, and the software gets less forgiving of systems that don't meet the requirements.
