I need a lot of help.

I downloaded this program a while ago. I have Vista. I have got to the point that I can open Avid DV Free, but nothing works. I have used Avid Express at school, and it's obvious that these two programs are different. I know that at school, we have a little avid drive for all the footage and stuff. I was wondering if I have to have a drive to be able to use footage.

Also, My friend uses a DVD Camcorder. I was wondering if I could get the footage from the discs into Avid without having to use a deck or anything.

I just need help in general with the beggining. Any help would be appreciated.

Problem with Avid Xpress

I got troubles after install when open a demo version of Avid Xpress any version, I get a error message "couldnt inicialize audio device" then program shuts.

Can you give a solution? I have to use the program. I have Windows XP SP3 32 bits,I heard that is for incompatibility whit GeForce cards or onboard cards,maybe true?

Who is this upgrade for?

This version is for customers already using Avid Media Composer v3.0.x, v3.1.x, Avid NewsCutter v7.0.x, v7.1.x and Avid Symphony v3.0.x and v3.1.x. A dongle update is NOT required. Customers who have upgraded to Avid Media Composer v3.5.x, Avid NewsCutter v7.5.x and Avid Symphony v3.5.x should NOT download this update.

Why is Avid releasing this product version after releasing the Media Composer 3.5, NewsCutter 7.5 and Symphony 3.5?

Help Exporting

Hey Champs,

I'm just having a problem exporting my project.

When I bring up the export settings, I only have the choice of exporting it as a fast quicktime (Which compresses the video down to about the quarter of the size and is as grainy as hell) or exporting it as just a normal file.

The normal file is 660mB and looks great when I put it on youtube...but it has no sound and doesn't read the top layer of my vision.

What can I do to export it at the full Mb size but include the audio and top layer of vision?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm guessing I have to download a compressor that will become apart of my export settings? But I'm too much of a n00b to really know :-[

generation loss?

If you import a Quicktime DV .mov video file into Avid Free DV, edit it cuts only, one video track, no transitions, effects or color correction, and export it as a Quicktime DV .mov file with the same settings, is there any recompression/generation loss, or is the file just copied? (Note: the Same as Source button in the export window of Free DV is grayed out). I am interested in sharing work on a project that can be assembled later on one computer, and don't want to lose picture quality.

Hi!

First when I downloaded and installed my Avid Free DV, everything worked correctly.
After I installed my webcam (Logitech Quickcam Pro 5000) Avid pops the following error message:

"Can't find any audio cards in your system. You will not be able to play audio."

What can I do to work my Avid correctly again?

My old mac broke down a couple of weeks ago which made me take the leap and buy an MBP. IO absolutley love it and have been installing all my apps the last few days. However, I don't seem to have made an backup of the install files for Avid Free. I'm not even sure if it runs under OSX 10.5.6 but I would sure like to try (still got a bunch of projects on my firewire drive...).

Does anyone know if there is any way to download Avid Free these days?

I know that Avid no longer supports it but it seems kind of harsh not to allow re-downloading for users (like me) who had their computer breaking down. I still got the e-mail with the Authorization Key (in fact I still use the same address) so it wouldn't be hard for Avid to verify that I do have a key.

Avid Free DV-White Screen

New to the softwre, just a few questions.

My .avi files load up as white screens with the audio intact. I have the latest QT, is this the problem? I ran the GSpot program and it says I have all the codecs required for that file. If it is the QT version, which do I need, and if I have to roll WAY back then...

Would it be worth my while to find a copy of Xpress on eBay? (dont want to shell out lots of dough for Media Composer just yet).

I recently found myself needing to edit some video at home. At work, I use a Media Composer, and really like it. However, at home, I wanted something less expensive - so I decided to dust off AVID FreeDV - and realized that I couldn't get it to work anymore. Since AVID discontinued it, and doesn't support it. I would gladly pay a reasonable amount for a stripped down version of AVID - like AVID FreeDV. After all, why switch? I KNOW AVID already. However, AVID doesn't care. So, I tried several demos, and found a GREAT piece of software for around $70 that is very, very impressive.I won't mention which one it is - since what happens in my editing room stays in my editing room (if you catch my meaning).

As a result, I will likely become quite fluent with this new software. If the stripped down version of this software is THIS good, I imagine the Pro version is great too. As a result, when my company is in the market for a new NLE, I can no longer guarantee I will not recommend switching ALL work machines to the other brand.

Just thought you'd like to know how killing FreeDV may cause a big loss in sales.

Having a realtec problem, all topics suggest getting a different soundcard. I would appreciate a response from avid, with possible workarounds, many to many have THIS exact problem. Wouldn't consider buying a program that won't work with industry standard onboard sound chipsets. I hope all understand that calls to the company are not effectively responded to, just "no live support" was the response. Do any Avid products work with realtec onboard soundcards?, thx, jm

I have trouble when I open the avid free dv program. it's happened when the audio initializing I have a comment ADM_SOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR and if I click "OK" the program always closed. Is that because I don't use external sound card (for info my soundcard is onboard realtek HD) or any mistake with my installation.... thanks before I hope there is a sollution with my problem....

I am new to this...

I tried to export the video from a mixed clip in Avid Free DV by clicking "Export", then selecting "Video Only" in the options... But when I go ahead with the export up pops an error box "errcode; 8961".

Help?!

Hello

I have on-board realtek HD audio. I have read that there are known problems with that card. I get the famous AVID_AUDIO_OPEN_ERROR and disabling the realtek sound mixer actually disables all sound on the system. (So I can run avid without sound).

The cheapest card which I can buy is Sound blaster live 5.1. Is it supported?

Chroma Key in Avid Free DV?

Am finishing up an action/drama film with extensive SPFX in Free DV. It would really help if I could chroma key inside the program. I heard that this is possible with "Spectramatte" which seems to be a complex effect inside Media Composer or something.

Can Avid Free DV do chroma key, and if so, how do you do it/where is it?

And PLEASE, if you don't know the answer, don't give me some lame answer starting with "Well, Free DV was discontinued AGES ago..." I really don't want to hear it.

I have Quicktime installed on my computer already, but everytime I log on to Avid Free DV, I get the following message:

"Quicktime is not installed on this system, it is strongly recommended you install it. Some effects will not function properly without it. ".

And when I try to import any type of files (quicktimes, mpgs, avi) I get this message:

"The file format (name of file) is not supported for import."

HELP!

How do you apply efffects to a video, such as resizing it, darkening it, lighting it, moving it around the screen, zooming in on it, doing slo-mo, or fast-motion? What seems to be the video effect section (the button you click at the top left of the timeline?) has no video effects in it at all. When a title is selected, there are a few options, however. Can someone explain how to use/apply/download effects for videos please?

Hi, is there a manual or anything besides the online tutorial for the Avid Free DV program? the online tutorial is pretty basic and there are many other things I'd like to learn how to do, such as:

- create a rolling text title

- split the screen into two and have two videos playing at the same time

- for each track there are three things on the left side of the timeline that you can select or un-select, what are they?
