Ok, had xpress pro 5.8 working seamlessly with my 002... had the mojo running off the onboard 1394 bus, and the 002 plugged into a 1394 card on differecnt pci mcia slot- all was dandy...

then, had to go thru the dreaded reinstall of the system... got everything rebuilt and back running sans the 002... simply can not get xpress to see the box.

am i looking past a item (or more likely a series of items) in settings that needs to be set? it has been so long since i went thru the process-

Out of the blue I began 'hang' when starting Avid. There is no error message but it hangs at the point where the screen says 'initializing audio'. Only 2 things come to mind. One is Quicktime. I am not running 7.3.1 and that was what I was running when I last used this system. It was always stable with 7.3.1. The other thing that has changed is a set of windows updates. Can you point me to a link to download a stand alone version of Quicktime 7.3.1? Thank you.

System: HP 8200. All factory components with no extra hardware. Four gig of ram and windows XP pro. Avid xpress pro 5.7.2

media management

I hate to admit it inasmuch as I have been editing on various flavors of Avid since the mid 90's, but what I finally must admit to needing is a good media management tutorial. I all too frequently lose files when deleting old projects. Here is what I do.

One program I regularly edit is a bi-monthly magazine format show. They shoot several segments ahead, and I never know which segments are going to end up in which episodes, so I have created a 'master segments' project with a bin for each individual show segment. When I finally know which segment goes where, I open its bin in the appropriate episode's project and assemble from there. So far so good. I can move segments around from episode to episode as the liquid program outline changes from day to day.

My problem occurs when the final episode is finished, broadcast, and copies made. Time to delete from the Avid. Since I can't figure out how to delete from just one bin (segment) I always end up loading the media tool for the entire project, looking through it line by line and deleting what looks to be the elements for that particular segment. As you can imagine, this takes what feels like forever, and of course I end up deleting the wrong stuff from time to time. I am pretty good about keeping track of original materials, so I can get them back. But...

There has to be a better way. Hence the wish for a media management tutorial after all this time.

Audio problem with Express Pro 5.8

Whenever I open up Avid I get a error message saying "Can't find any audio cards in your system. You will not be able to play audio."

I've tried to figure out the reason for this but I can't. I can edit the video fine but I need to unselect the audio channels when I want to edit. Also if I have a avid project that has already been edited together and export it on my computer which says that I can't play audio when I export it the audio still plays.

Can anyone help me?

LCD monitors keep dropping out.

Our Avid AXP 5.8 has suddenly started playing up. When you are in the programme, the monitors keep dropping out, like a bad connection. However this only happens in Avid and not in any other program on the system.

I suspect it is the graphics card on its last legs, but if anyone else has experienced this, I would be interested to hear about it before I buy another Quadro card!

That time of year has come around again when one of my clients with an Avid system is preparing next year's budget and is asking me to give them a 'wish list' of equipment. Plan A is a new computer and a Media Composer upgrade (see signature for what they currently have). Plan B is software and/or plugins. Their programming is community based- a magazine format 'around town' show, senior citizens and childrens' programming, and assorted Public Service Announcements. All SD. Any ideas? Sure would appreciate any input.

pan and zoom moves looks jittering on screen - SOS

Out of the blue I found out that a presentation of a painter I recorded has a problem.

While camera movement (pan) or while zooming - lines and objects within the painting I filmed are "jumping"

Does some one know why it happen and what can be done to solve this ?

Need help getting a quality output of my 24p project.

So here is the deal. I shot a music video on my Canon Xh-A1 in standard 60i. I imported the and edited in MC. I exported a QT ref file out to After Effects CS4 and using Magic Bullet Frames converted the clip to 24p (it looked great by the way). I then created a 24p (23.976) project in Avid, reimported and did some final changes and titles. Now I exported the clip to Sorenson Squeeze to try and get a real nice quality HD clip for pc/ps3 playback. I uses the 1080 HI mpeg setting and encoded a clip at 18000 kb/s, progressive, square pixel, however the finished clip looked bad. The entire project seems either too light or too dark (where as it was perfect in my Avid playback) also I see some pixelization on many of the clips. What am I doing wrong here? How do I get a video that looks as good as it does on my playback monitor?

problems with Xpress Pro and Realtek High Definition SOLUTION

Hi, I have problem with my notebook sony VAIO that has the soundboard "Realtek High Definition".

I already installed Avid Xpress Pro 4.3, and when it startsup xpress appears a note "ADM_DSOUND_MIXER_OPEN_ERROR

Does anybody knows what it means??? Can anybody give me a solution?!?!?!

Shooting NTSC on PAL camera

Someone's just asked for a job shot in NTSC. We're in London and all our stuff is PAL.

A colleague suggests it's as simple as switching the camera's internal menu from 50i to 60i - does this sound plausible?

timeline to DVD efficiency

One of my regular clients has XPRESS PRO 5.6.7, Sorenson Squeeze and Sonic ReelDVD. All of their finished shows, ranging from 30 - 60 minutes, are output to DVD. The standard workflow has been, from the timeline to a Quicktime Reference Movie, into Squeeze for MPEG2 compression, and to REELDVD for burning to DVD. Is this the most efficient workflow given the equipment available? It works fine, but takes a lot of time- let's say 3-5 hours per program, depending on length. I know rendering takes time, but I am wondering if there is a more efficient way. Since I have been doing it this way for years, I am wondering if I am behind the times.

One more thing. They are considering upgrading to Media Composer in the future. Would that change anything?

Typing effect in Avid Marquee?

I'm looking to have a line of text playout as if someone is typing it in realtime. The only way I can think of doing it is by cascading a series of titles each with one more additional character. Which takes ages.

Is there an effect / style / template in Avid Marquee that will do this automatically for me?

A Dongle-Related Thought Experiment

Can I invite some reflections upon the following?

I run MC on two platforms - a desktop, and a laptop for location edits. This involves lots of dongle-swapping.

I'd love to liberate the laptop from dongle use. But clearly the raison d'etre of a dongle is to prevent multiple SIMULTANEOUS use of the same software.

I recently invested in MC v.4. This version allows dongle- free use, through online registration. But it's restricted to one pc - if you try and register a second pc, I presume Avid's servers recognise the software's serial number and block it.

So the question is this: what's to stop one upgrading pc #1 to v. 4, and going dongle-free - then leaving pc #2 on v. 3 with the dongle? Two systems, running simultaneously - one software package?

Btw I'd dearly love to buy two separate copies of MC, just can't afford it.

Avid Express Pro 5.8.4 upgrade - Entry Point not found error

I am trying to install the upgrade from Avid Express Pro 5.7.7 to 5.8.4 and have run into this error when trying to start up express pro.... The procedure entry point ?AVGetDriveType@@YAHPAD@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library AvCoreM2W10.dll. Can someone please help me?

Haunted by Digidesign Plugin

This is the biggest Avid headache I've ever experienced. It's haunted this PC for years and I'm desperate for advice...

It started with Xpress Pro. Whenever the Audio Suite was launched, the system froze.

Eventually I bought the MC upgrade and it reverted to normal.

Except now upon launching Audio Suite, a DigiDesign popup appeared offering a 30 day free trial of 'Broadband Noise Reduction'. It took several clicks on 'no' to get rid of - and reappeared every time.

Then the screen freezing problem started again.

Then whole bins started to freeze when you opened them - the ones containing Audio Suite effects.

Someone advised installing a new interlock driver set:

Sadly no effect.

Out of desperation I bought and installed v.4.

Now the Audio Suite loads fine... until the very last plugin, when the screen freezes - on the following familiar words:

'Loading plugins: Broadband Noise Reduction L.E. dp %90.

The other PC, using identical software and dongle works fine.

I'm at my wit's end. There's a ghost in the machine called 'Broadband Noise Reduction' and it won't go away..

Any help appreciated, please!

5.8 Buffer Overrun Detected

Just installed avid 5.8 (PC) from 5.7.5 with No issues

As soon as I try to add audio clip gain of try to render clip i get error that that states i have Buffer Overrun detected which has corrupted the programs internal state.

This project has been created from the previous version. and after install of 5.8 just kept the project to continue on.. Any ideas as to what the issue is? or is this a buggy 5.8.

I also loaded the 5.8 onto another computer with the same result....hmm

...but when I try opening it I get an error that says...

"Your video card either does not support playback or it needs more memory. Try lowering the screen size or bit depth. For now playback will only display the first frame on the desktop."

And then as it continues to load, it locks up when it says "Initializing Audio" at the bottom of the screen.

I'm an editor, not a technician. But, am I safe to assume there is something wrong with my video card (NVIDIA Quadro)?

Can someone help me?

I just recently had to re-image my machine which was formerly running Xpress 5.8. which i upgraded from the original system install of 5.2.

so, i went thru the re-image process- all worked fine at 5.2... then went to upgrade back and step back where i was to 5.8.

seemed to install fine, but when i try and open Xpress comes to a dialog

"AVid DNA Driver Version Mismatch, expected version = 2.2.5.x, but found driver version 2.2.1.20"

only option dialog gives from there is to quit.

dont know how to force it to reinstall correct driver... looked at a couple previous posts stating that power cycling mojo might force windows to reinstall... no dice.

also looked into suggestion about installing it thru device manager...

dont know where it exists in the manager...

other suggestions?

Trouble getting M1V File into Avid

Hi,

I've downloaded some files from the internet to edit something for a competition. But they are mpeg but when i try and import into avid it says 'cannot import m1v'

Sorenson Squeeze won't import them either to convert.

The only other editing software i hav is Windows Movie Maker, so but that only exports to .wmv or .avi niether or which will import into avid....

I've been trying to import into Window Movie Maker, export as .wmv and then use Sorenzen Squeeze to convert to various files, but not having much like. Also tried recording onto my camera to recapture but play back is jagged.

Any help would be much appreciated, as the closing date is this friday and i really wanted to enter

Tape Deck play back problem

Not exactly a problem with our Avid kit but wondered if anyone could help us out with this fault ?

We have a strange capture problem that has suddenly developed after 2 years of trouble free use.

We’re using 2 Sony HVR-A1E Cams and 2 Sony HVR-M15U Capture decks.

When we’re capturing footage from the decks ( even when just playing back through a stand alone monitor connected directly to the decks ) every so often the picture will freeze for a second then carry on. This seems to be mainly on longer shoots and has happened with different tapes shot on both cameras.

The odd thing is the tapes run fine on both cams. It also freezes in exactly the same places on both capture decks !!

We’ve run cleaning tapes through both cams and decks.

I just cant think what the common denominator is as both cams seem ok and both decks don’t…..

Any ideas appreciated.

Hi,

I'm working on a HDV project (1080i, 60fps) on Avid Xpress Pro 5.2.1. I've 3 hrs of rush material, and have edited it to a 30 mins timeline.

Everytime I apply a basic transition on a cut or try to put a subtitile, Avid is not playing it and throws the following error messaage:

Exception: Decomp Codec Thread: Wait for Decode Thread Timeout

In fact it throws the same message when I try to play any blank area in my sequence.

Please help.

My System Specs: Non Qualified Avid System.

AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ (2.21Ghz) with 2 GB System RAM and nVidia PCI Express Geforce 6200 with 256 MB Ram

Here is my error:

'omfiHPDoain_ERROR_CLOSING_DOMAIN" An error occurred validating the media Directory F:\OMFI Media Files-

I have deleted the 2 msmMMob files and a creating file. It restarts and read about 50% of the F:\ drive and I get this error. I guess it is a corrupt file or something. I have 2 network shows to get out by Monday and not sure what my next step would be. Can I run some sort of disk clean on my media files???

Please help, I am runnin out of time on the deadline.
