A patch update to 1.6 is available. It is Media Indexer 1.6.5. and should address the slowness issue as reported here.

Hi,

thanks for that - just an update from our side - since posting this we went with the 2.0.3 update on Avids advice on the indexer and it appears to have made a lot of difference to the responsiveness of the indexer, and also the scanning issues have settled down someehat after this...not sure how relevent this is but fwiw

Graham,

The rescanning in the MI's media table is normal. Since Interplay 1.5 the way the MI gets its notification from the Unity/ISIS client has changed. The MI gets a notification every 10 seconds from the Unity/ISIS client whenever a monitored folder has been changed.

Just a thought on this, have you checked the memory usage on the Media Indexers from the Task Manager? Do you have high pagefile or RAM usage that might be slowing the server down?

Our Interplay v1.6 64 bit indexer is doing this too, snag is we have only got one. Can I reboot this machine at an opportune time then?

Most of my workspaces seem to be rescanning, even though some of them have not been updated for a week.

Page file appears correct on our system...

From Avid Global support I received this:

"Pagefile size is incorrectly set to an initial size of 2046 and a
maximum size of 4092 in the V03 recovery image for Interplay Engine,
Archive, and Media Indexer on the SR2500 (ipe_pip10_mbs5000xal_v03),
which could cause slow performance. Both values should be changed to 6144.

To change the value, follow the steps below:

1. On the desktop, right-click on the My Computer icon and click on
Properties.

2. Click on the Advanced tab on the System Properties dialog box.

3. Click on the Settings button under the Performance section.

4. Click on the Advanced tab on the Performance Options dialog box.

5. Click on the Change button in the Virtual memory section.

6. In the Initial size and Maximum size text fields on the Virtual
Memory dialog box, enter "6144" and click on the Set button.

7. Click on the OK button on the Virtual Memory dialog box.

8. Click on the OK button on the System Control Panel Applet dialog box
if it appears.

9. Click on the OK button on the Performance Options dialog box.

10. Click on the OK button on the System Properties dialog box.

11. Click on the Yes button on the System Settings Change dialog box and
allow the system to reboot.

I not installed Media Indexer from image, but I checked the VM on Indexer and it is true, pagefile size is incorrectly set to an initial size.

I'll let you know with result.

We power cycling all servers once per month. But restart have not impact on feature "permanent full resync" which is introduced from IP 1.5 and it makes me crazy. With version IP 1.4.2 it works OK without any restart (180 days uptime!!!!!). I think that there is some bug in notification from ISIS, ISIS not notify Interpaly that new file is present and IP developer probably create some task for periodic resync for all workspaces which kill CPU. I will try use ISIS 1.6, but I am sceptic.

Each week, restart a Media Indexer. One each week, at a slower workload time, and NEVER both at the same time. Make sure you log-in after the restart, should give your speed a kick in the ass.

Slow Media Indexer

Hi all

Media Indexers are very, very slow. When I import media (for example from XDcam) or ingest any media from Airspeed, it takes cca 15min until the media is online on all editors. We ingest media from Airspeed, remote workgroup using Transfer engine and NewsCutter (XDcam, tape, EditCam, P2).
The problem started after upgrade to Interplay 1.6. Any new media ingested is available online after 15 minutes.
When we check indexer status it is always performing full resync on all workspaces and create lot of log files.

I reported this problem on Avid support site 4 weeks ago, but without any response.
Any idea how to speed it up?

ISIS storage v1.5 with 5 workspaces with cca. 200 000 files

Two transfer managers, 7 Airspeeds
