Play Frame Error

Hi Guys,

We installed the Interplay Assist v2.0 on a z400 workstation. It is connected to our ISIS network. Our problem is that we can't run the Avid Assist software. We always get "No working video resolution set, dynamic relink will be disabled" error upon loading the software using the user account. When we use the admin account we are able to play the video but after 3-5 seconds it stops and hang. Also, it shows the working and target video resolution on the upper right of the window. This doesnt show on the user account. We verified the interplay admin settings but shows that the video resolution is set. We also tried to ping the SYSDIR and MI and can it ping. Any suggestions to go around the play frame issue? Appreciate any information that can help us resolve this.

Easiest way to get AVCHD footage into Interplay

A number of our reporters are starting to use AVCHD cameras to shoot their own stuff. I need an easy solution for them to be able to transcode the AVCHD footage and get it into interplay so they can edit it with Instinct. Does anyone know of a software solutions so they can do all this from their Instinct computer? I am trying to avoid putting Media Composer on their computers.

Ingest from XDCAM using Transfer Manager

I would like to ingest XDCAM (sd dv25) discs into Avid Unity v5 shared storage with Interplay Transfer Manager. (we haven't got interplay )

My Transfer Manager configuration is the following:

FTP parameters: Profile Name: xdcamdev Server name: 192.168.5.71 Username: admin Password: pdw-1500 Server Type: SONY_XDCAM_PROFILE Playback format: DV 25 Default Dir: nothing Ftp mode: active Ftp Port: 21

Ingest transfer enabled
Max sim. ing. transfers: 1
Ingest devices: xdcamdev

Dir. for incoming transfers: U:\Avid Meiafiles\MXF\Avid13.1 (it is an FC attached unity volume)

Total transfers: 6

When I try to start an ingest task form the client using FtpClipList I got the following error:
"ANF::Client::open: Can't connect to xdcamdev"

I can reach xdcamdev device using FTP feature of TotalCommander from the client and from the transfer manager too.

What is wrong? Please help me!

Avid Interplay

I am running MacPro and MacBook Pro. I've just installed MC4 and the other software that came with the package HOWEVER I cannot get Interplay to install. I'm not really astute on Mac's but unless I am terribly mistaken, the Interplay disc I have appears to be for PC only.

Anyone know how to get it to install OR how to acquire the Mac version (if my suspicions are correct) ?? I am anxious to capture some video and start playing around and then try to figure out how to get V5.0??

update status progress bar not working

Subject sez it all. We're on Access for Vista V2.1.0.16220. Our usual workflow is, after deleting files from Access we hilight the project floder in Access and go to update status from media indexer. In the past a progress bar told us the score. Now the progress bar...well doesn't. Just sits there at 0 then disappears when it is (I assume) done. Any thoughts dear ones or am I way late on this one??

problem connecting to media indexer with Media Composer 5

Hi,

we have an interplay 2.1 environment and want to update to Media Composer 5.0.1

the System is a Mac OSX 10.6.3, Mediaindexer and Access from the Interplay 2.1 install DVD

Access and Administration tool connect with no problems.

But when we launch Media Composer this error Massage appears:

"could not connect to the media indexer, verify the health of media indexer service,quality match results will be based on application cached infromation, which might not be up-to-date"

we tried also the media indexer from interplay 2.2 - same result.

is there any solution for this problem?

Renders for Send to Playback

When sending to playback (EVS in this case) the sequence must be fully rendered, understandably, to create a flattened file.

However there seems to be a need to render all elements, rather than the topmost. Indeed if there is a fully opaque video mixdown on the top track, all the underlying effects still require rendering (I have seen this feature on Output to tape too, requiring the bypass of 'safe' mode).

Similarly, when sending direct out files, all the audio dissolves must be rendered for the mixdowns to be created, yet this does not seem to be required when creating an audio mixdown normally. These renders are not apparent in the sequence however.

1. Could we have the render implementation refined so there is only a need to render the topmost effects for STP and no render required if the topmost video layer is fully opaque (i.e. a mixdown)

2. Often it is quicker to play to EVS at baseband, utilising the DX hardware to avoid renders. A loop through real time video mixdown would be useful here.

3. If the audio renders are necessary could the original sequence retain those renders?

Renamed Clips Reverting Back to Original Names

Hello all,

We've been seeing a frustrating issue in our Interplay Environment. We ingest the vast majority of our clips from EVS transfer and Ikegami Fieldpak. Both these workflows create Avid metadata with names when ingested. Many times, we don't have the time to properly name these clips until later (days, weeks, sometimes months). We setup Interplay Access and Assist, and go through our Interplay WG and rename the clips to suitable names, and then organize them.

However, it seems many times these clip names don't stick. I will open up the Interplay Window, and the clip names have reverted back to their old form. Our workflow is almost entirely out of the Interplay Window in Symphony V 3.1.2. It's frustrating after spending an entire day organizing the system that half of the clips reverted back to their original "00023" name. It seems to happen most often on clips that are already in use before the renaming process.

We are working in Interplay 1.5.0.9345. Any help would be much appreciated.

Avid Assist - Locators

We've been having a small issue with regards to locators, in that they are disapearing on us.

We currently ingest a feed via our HD Airspeeds and as it is coming in we have one of our loggers log the footage in Avid Assist by using Locators. Then while the feed is still being ingested and logged, our Producers begin to cut it down into segments which is to be fed out at the end of the day.

The Locators seem to disapear once the feeds start being cutdown and while it's still being logged.

My theory right now is that when the feeds are being cut down and placed into sequences, when they are checked back into Interplay it overrides any locators that were added from the time it was first brought in from Interplay to the time it checked itself back into Interplay.

Does anyone know how Locators are saved to Masterclips in Assist? Is there a temp file created that almost serves as a cache and periodically updates the Masterclip in Interplay? Or does each Locator get saved and inputed instantly to the Masterclip for which it is being logged?

Avid Access - Move Function

In Interplay Access there is a function called "Move", however in the help Menu is describes as the function not available.

Anyone have any idea on what the function be allow us to do in the near future? I'm hoping that it will allow the moving of media files from one workspace to another without the need to transcode or consolidate media.

Interplay Check-in Inquiry

Hi Guys,

I'm just starting to get familiar with the newscutter and interplay software. I noticed that after we check-in the sequence in newscutter sometimes the graphics clip gets offline after 24 hrs and sometimes the next 30 minutes while we edit. We were told by the admin that the sequences that we created and checked-in will stay on interplay in our project folder for 2 days. We're not quite sure whats happening. As far as i understand, interplay should have saved the imported grapics clip as part of the sequence that we checked-in. The graphics clip is a QT format and in a seperate drive (mounted through network) where we import it to newscutter and save to our interplay project folder. Can anyone shed some light on this? i want to understand how newscutter and interplay works. thanks so much.

What to do with Orphan clips

We run the re-sync on Interplay and it locates all these missing files/Fragments from projects long ago deleted. So if I delete these files does the metadata disappear forever from the orginal project. If the orphan clips are in a current job do we drag it back in, even if according to the project and Interplay they were never missing to begin with.

Matte Keys not compatible in Interplay

If I drag a sequence or a matte key from Interplay (i.e. matte key generated from QT with Alpha, imported in a seperate suite). Then the matte key remains rendered (i.e. the background stays fixed even if I slide the key clip only). If I unrender then the background is black.

Seems that the key will not make it through the Interplay process.

Any workarounds (other than sharing an ISIS project bin...)

Hi All,

I've been trying to set up transfer manager stand alone with my pdw-1500. I keep having trouble with the transfer manager server not communicating with the XDCAM. I'm 100% sure that I'm overseeing something simple.

But in my search finding it I also went through the knowledge base to find the readme's for the transfer manager. All I can find are documents for older versions which miss features. Where are the documents for the latest version?

Hi,

I am having issues in connecting AVVID interplay application, when i login, i get following error

"could not connect to the media indexer, verify the health of media indexer service,quality match results will be based on application cached infromation, which might not be up-to-date"

When i try to connect media, it give me media offline, i re-try two to three time and get the same media offilne but after forth attempt i get the media online and application start working normally.....

I would appreciate if someone share the experience.!!

Can I change the aspect ratio in Interplay Access ?

Is there a way to change theaspect ratio in Interplay Access when viewing WAN streaming video.

I found that the aspect ratio is locked to 4:3, so it is not quite right for reviewing HD proxy.

Does any one have any experience running interplay/ISIS Client with a Single port Intel PRO/1000 PT NIC Cards. I have one in a machine now (an Assist Client thats a new build up in a Dell T5500 box) that's a dual port but would rather run a single port card, plus I need 5 more as well, and sense the singles are cheeper i thought it might be better to go that way but wanted to check before I ordered.

Interplay and 3rd party storage?

Interplay only works with Unity/ISIS, correct? No Terrablock, Editshare, Isilon, etc.?

Are there any plans to open it up to 3rd party storage?

As a shop with a lot invested in Terrablock, some of the features of Interplay are really enticing but having to completely throw away our existing SAN makes it a much bigger deal.

Can't delete "filemob"

Hello all.

In our Interplay system, we sometimes have a problem deleting individual files.

I don't know exactly how it happens, but every now and then we end up with a file, that is not a masterclip or a sequence or anything. It's called a "filemob" by Interplay, and the name of the file is "Avid_Mob.01".

If I try to delete it, i get the error: "An internal client error occured. java.lang.IllegalArgumentExeption: Unsupportet mime type filemob".

I have talked with Avid Denmark about it. They couldn't explain how we ended up with the file. We did however find a workaround to delete it. If i look at the properties for the file, it is relatet to another file, eg a masterclip. If i delete this masterclip, the filemob changes type/icon, and becomes a corrupt file with a red cross in the icon. This i can't delete by pressing delete - but i can delete it by dragging it into the "Deleted items" folder.

But this is a very long proces. And if the relatet clip is still in use and can't be deleted, i cannot delete the filemob. Very annoying for our workflow...

Does anyone know how we end up with a "filemob", and does anyone know of an easier way of deleting it?

Understanding the relationship between Access/Assist and the Media Indexers...

I'm trying to grasp exactly how Avid Access and Assist know which media is online, nearonline and offline.

From what I understand, both clients (Access/Assist) access the Media Indexers via Interplay, using the our workgroup.

Yet what I don't understand is which Media Indexer the workgroup is reading off of? Should I assume that it's reading off the President?

My little issue right now is that the some Access clients are seeing media online while others are seeing media nearline. You first notice the issue when you "Update From Media Indexer" and all of a sudden all of the clips highlighted go from being "Online" to "Nearline".

At first I thought it was because some machines were connected to different Discovery Groups (GPS01 & GPS02), however that became flawed once the issue happened at the same time on different groups. I then figured out it was only happening for media introduced to Interplay in the last month, as if it took an EXTREMELY long time for media to be Indexed. And the problem varies as today some Access clients are giving me that trouble while yesterday those same machines were giving me "Online" status.

Which makes me believe that perhaps, as the HAG assigns Media Indexers to our Editing clients, perhaps it does the same to the Access stations? And if that is the case, is there a place I can see which Access stations are reading off a particular Media Indexer?

Media Indexer not indexing newly created media

Hey all,

I am having an issue where i have 2 MIs. One will index newly created media, the other will not. I am on Interplay 2.1 with 32 bit indexers. I have shut down one of the indexers and everything is well, but when i get the second indexer in and try to load balance, thats when i notice that things are falling offline. I have also rebuilt the indexing tables to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks.
