    Avid Quicktime Compression

    Hi there,

I have a question regarding exporting "uncompressed" quicktimes with Avid MC5.5.2.

If a client requests an uncompressed quicktime, when exporting, by the "compression type", is it better to select "None" or rather "Avid Meridien Uncompressed" or "Avid 1:1 x" ?

Similarly, with Quicktime Pro 7, would one export using the compression type "none" or "uncompressed 4:2:2" ?

    Thanks guys!

    Re: Avid Quicktime Compression

If you use any Avid Codec the client should install the Avid Codecs at his/her machine.

However I don't want to see the file's size if it will be uncompressed.

    Re: Avid Quicktime Compression

    Hello,

If you use "none" the file contains uncompressed 8bit RGB values. If you use the avid uncompressed codec you get Y'CbCr values with 4:2:2 subsampling. And the bad thing is that quicktime internaly converts to rgb before converting to   Y'CbCr. So whenever you can try to use "export same as source" then you'll get a streamcopy of the codec used in your timeline. (If you have mixed codecs do a videomixdown before exporting).

    regards,

    Udo
