Best way to convert 1080/25p to 24p (24 fps)

    Hi everyone

I have a film that was shot HDcam 1080/25p , and finished on symphony nitris at 1:1 HD 25 fps,

and was handled at 25 fps all the way, including sound.

However, we are making a DCP version that is 24 fps.

The sound designer wants a Quick Time DV-PAL version of the film in 24 fps in order to check that the speed change matches ok an in sync. Video quality in not the issue, just something decent to work with.

Whats the best way? I went with Modify the sequence to 24p, opening a new 24p project, open the modified sequence, render and export.

I'm not completly sure it worked, and maybe not the best way to go. What do you say?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated

    Best

    Edi

That will not generate the right conversion.

You need to physically lower the speed of the clip. You can manually change the framerate of a QT file, using CinemaTools or Dumpster. See this thread, for instance.

You can manually change the framerate of a QT file, using CinemaTools or Dumpster. See this thread, for instance.
You can also lower the speed by exporting a QTref of your master from your 25 fps project.

Create a 24 fps project and open the console.  Type "ignoreQTrate 1" and press enter.  Close the console and import your QTref file.

You should now have a 24 fps timestretched version of your 25 fps master.  Export that for your sound team.

Jwrl's method is a great one too. Just make sure your source file has no sound, otherwise IgnoreQTRate won't work. Here's some more info about 24-25 framerate changes.

    Success!!

    Thanks guys, your the best.

Actually, I thought it didn't work, but the remark on the "no sound" saved the day.

I also tried the image sequence method that is mentioned in the PDF Job attached,

and it works just the same, but the export takes longer, so...

Anyway, awsome to have the help from you..

    Cheers

Yeah, sorry, forgot all about that.  Whenever I've done this a separate pitch-shifted 24 fps sound layup is used.  Accordingly I've never exported the sound from the 25 fps project.

    Thanks, Job.
