    Variable Speed Playback - Jog/Shuttle

Believe it or not I've just recently changed over from a Meridien MC to MC 5.  Quite a pleasant change except for one crucial tool: Variable speed playback with the mouse.

I've read a few posts about how the feature has been removed.  This is costing me an enormous amount of time because I go through hours and hours of interviews and have always used the variable speed feature to do it.  I find that at about 50fps, I get thru it faster and can still understand what's being said.  Now I'm stuck at normal speed or 2x and 2x is too fast.  So here's my question: Has anyone found a workaround?

I've heard that the Contour Shuttlepro still seems to work.  I wonder if there's a way to fool the avid into thinking my mouse or trackball is the Shuttlepro's jog/shuttle wheel?  Or a key combination?  All I want to do is get somewhere in between 1x and 2x speed.  Why on earth is this feature gone????

I'm on an Adrenaline MC 5 system.  I've heard it can be enabled on a Nitrus/DX system.  We might be getting one of those soon, but in the meantime, any ideas???

    THANKS!

The Contour Shuttle Pro 2 works here with an Adrenaline system. If you have access to a Contour Shuttle pro you could look at the mapping on the jog shuttle wheel in the MC default preset and possibly map the approprate speed to a Mouse key.

Vaguely recall it was a series of +1's. That suites busy today so cannot confirm this.

Thanks andrew, I see if anyone I know has one.  If you do get the chance to check it out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Re: Variable Speed Playback - Jog/Shuttle

I just played around with the 1 & 2 keys and they're merely 10 frame advance and retard and if you hold them down it seems to jog around 1.5x, but no sound!  Why would they take this feature away?  Anyway, if you learn anything, let me know.

    THANKS!

It's right there in Symphony these days.

Also, if you get yourself the Euphonix MC Transport, that gets you a shuttle ring that will actually shuttle. You can set its speed so that the max shuttle speed is what you want it to be.

Re: Variable Speed Playback - Jog/Shuttle

I'm so used to using the keyboard and mouse, adding another controller surface will mean filling more desk space, I know it sounds silly, but just moving hands from one controller to another upsets the flow for me.  I wonder if the Euphonix transport can be mined for key combos.  Probably it's something else altogether tho...
