    supporting Windows 7

In reading over the Avid qualified systems, I see that Windows 7 is supported by most. A few, including the Precision 6400 I just purchased, do not support Windows 7 but recommend Vista 64 Pro. I really don't want to deal with Vista, and wonder why Windows 7 would be supported on some systems and not on others. Is it possibly just because Windows 7 has not been tested on all the qualified systems?

That's pretty much it.  HP & Avid didn't officially support Win 7 x64, but I'm running with no issues.

12 gig ram is pretty awesome, you could probably buy a decent desktop for the price of the ram alone.
