What about Avid then?
Will there be any PC version of ventura? I understand not recording to ProRes, but DNxHD? I think it's a more economical solution to use a cheaper PC with better hardware then a Mac Pro to record DNxHD 185X with the MXO2mini. Getting tired of mac based apps when the industry isn't moving twords a mac based professional solution for workflows.
64 bit, GPU acceleration, better AMA, better exports with GPU acceleration, better grading with true secondary and lift gamma gain, higher resolutions (4K, 5K etc.) and a video stream online (for directors being far away on the phone or skype).
That would blow ANY competition away and it will be future-proof MC for a long time.

They do have their own capture app on the PC side named AV tools, for now, it cannot capture to DNxHD.
My solution right now is to use my little MacBook Pro for capturing and my GB Lan to fast import those DNxHD Mac encoded files from my MBP to my PC system, works excellent.
So, you might need one more laptop ??
Is it just me or does the 2.1 release not work at all with Avid? I can't get a signal out of the Avid even though it acknowledges the MXO2 Mini on the button next to the audio meters on the timeline. To add insult to injury, the output on FCP is vertically unstable on 23.98 pSF. Only Ventura playback works, but that's only good for me if I want to play color bars. So much for Santa coming early, looks like he brought fleas. I'm going back to 1.9.2 until I hear otherwise.
Must think of something clever to go here...

Do you have a signal out when using 1,92 Howard
Have you checked the outgoing settings into your control panel, managed from the MXO settings , the apple icon at the top left . system settings
Sorry if this is obvious, but the info on the Matrox site seemed to suggest that this driver will only work on OS 10.6.4. I've held back my OS to 10.6.2 with 1.9.2 drivers because of previous posts on this form suggesting instability on newer Mac OS versions.
Are people happily running the Matrox monitoring with MC 5.0.3 on OS 10.6.4 with 2.1 drivers? At present I have a dual boot system with FCP on 10.6.4 with 2.0 drivers and Avid on the older versions so i can reclaim some drive space if both apps will work with the same drivers and same OS.
Or would people recommend keeping the dual boot system and leaving Avid where it is?

Actually this is the info
Installs the Matrox MXO2 Mini v2.1 software for Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6.5) only. This software supports Apple Final Cut Pro v7.0.3, Adobe Premiere Pro v5.0.2, Avid Media Composer v5.0.3, and Boris FX Media 100 v1.6.2.
I discussed this with Matrox yesterday, as Avid for now not is certifying 10.6.5 and most of the developement process with the Matrox 2.1 drivers where done with 10.6.4 even 10.6.4 might be an allowed OS for 2.1, they do recommend to update to 10.6.5 however if and maybe when?? Avid will allow that.

Yes , both with 10.6.4 and an Avid uncertified 10.6.5
My experience is that 1.9.2 works with MC 5.0.3.5, FCP 7.0.3 and OSX 10.6.5 and 2.1 doesn't work with either FCP or Avid. I can get a signal out via their Vetura app, but that's 1080i. Your actual mileage may vary.
Anybody have it working out there? Maybe the new signal options don't get along well with consumer HDMI monitors?
I can do one more ntsc test Howard, your project settings ?
1080p 23.98
What monitor are you using? When I have time to deal with the 3 restarts that it takes to uninstall/reinstall/update firmware (6 restarts if you revert back to the previous version), I might give it a try on a Panasonic Professional Plasma that can take any frame rate.
I just tried NTSC 23,976 p on my MBP with the Matrox Mini connected and everytime I switches to it, Avid gives me an error message saying that Avid isnt supporting it so this might be an Avid thing.
Are you saying that Avid doesn´t give you this Avid error message that Avid isn´t supporting this Project Format when you are using drivers 1,9,2 ?
If so, I wouldn´t touch that system config, from what I am reading in all the specs, Avid shouldn´t be supporting this, please correct me if I am wrong, I am a Pal guy, remember.
As you had me to do some more Ntsc tests I actually got this working even with 1080p 23,976 , you can only use it for Sd out on your Hdmi screen but that might be better than nothing.
The trick is that from Matrox control panel switch the HDMI out from main channel to SD, works with my MBP, drivers 2,1 and Media Composer 5,0,3,5
Most screens should be able to be used for previewing, I am using a Sony Bravia 46 inch both for Pal and Ntsc, works well with what Avid and Matrox currently supports
Well it looks like we need an update from Avid to get the full benefit of those new drivers.
NTSC 23.976 isn't supported by Avid on the MXO2. (That's what the SD Mojo is for..).
I was testing with 1080p/23.98 footage.
I'm using a Bravia too, didn't try the SD output options since that kinda defeats the purpose of the MX02 Mini to begin with.
Has anybody got it working out there?
