"just make a different title for each word and keyframe."
If it makes your layout easier you can also do it with two copies of the same title on different layers. When you open the title in the effect editor you can then crop it to show the half you want to move.
...and if you click the little 3D box in the lower right corner of the Effect Controls you get a new range of options.

If you're doing animated titles in Avid, it's worth taking an hour to learn Marquee. There's a free tutorial at Avid.com to get you started, and it's quite adept at the things you're talking about.
That said, the tips here are great ones. The little 3D box is often the key to many of the things you want to do with titles and other footage in Avid -- a whole new set of options just a button away....

I think my memory sucks, but I forget.

I know this thread was started two years ago, but I have looked for this marquee tutorial and not found it. Maybe I'm not entering he correct keywords. I don't know ...
I am trying to move text across screen from left to right and from right to left. I have 11 video tracks, each with a different title and I want them to move across screen in opposite directions at different speeds.
The problem is that many of them are really long, e.g. "Western Province Football Association". I type it up in the title tool, then in the timeline, I position it on screen and add the movement keyframes. When I play it, however, the title moves across screen from right to left (as I wanted), but all it says is "Western Province Foo" - it's cut off the rest of the title.
I've been told that this is because I created a master title with all the names on it and then deleted all except one from the master as I went up the video tracks. This means that I can't use the roll tool because I can only use it on the original title when I create it.
So, I can redo each title and apply the roll tool, but apparently this only rolls titles left to right.
The same editor who told me about this, said that he'd heard that the marquee tool could help me, but he doesn't know how. I've looked through the manual and not found anything yet.
Any help? Pleeeeeeeze ...
Thank you!TLS
