Capture Aborted due to lack of progress issue

I noted this in another thread but that was an MC 3 thread, and the topic got no attention.

When I first started using MC5, in it's original .0.0 and .0.1 releases I was able to capture HDV footage from my Sony GVHD700 without any problem.  Now I am getting aborted captures 'due to lack of progress'

I can't recall whether this started on 5.0.2 or 5.0.3

    Is this a known issue?

Thanks for that idea John.  I have checked my settings and they all seem appropriate.

I get the same thing at about 8 mins on each tape that I capture.

Re: Capture Aborted due to lack of progress issue

I recently saw this when capturing tapes from a XH A1, turned out to be blank spots on the tape, Liquid was able to capture using EZ Capture but I still had blank spots.

I did some search for this error message at that time, seems to be " media is no longer coming into your system " and that is what happens at black spots even if there are timecode, could also be something else that causes media to not come in to the system of course

Re: Capture Aborted due to lack of progress issue

    John,

I use that deck, and periodically get the same error message.  It is due to timecode breaks in the tape in my case.  I just wind back to the spot where the previous clip ended, and continue my capture.  The same message also appears at the end of the captured sequence on the tape.

Isn't there a check box where you can continue capture in the event of timecode breaks?  BTW, I don't batch capture, I capture the entire tape to disk before editing so that I know I have any resources that I might need available to me.

    Hope this helps,

    Denny

If you go into your capture settings, you can select the 'Capture Across Timecode Breaks' option. This should recue the deck and let it keep capturing if it detects a timecode break.

Strange...I got this error all the time using MC3.  Now with MC5, I do not get the error.  For some reason, the upgrade worked for me.  Perhaps you just need to re-install the software.  Is your Quicktime version up to date?

I also use a Sony HDV deck  HVR-M15AU.

Timecode - Make sure capture over timecode breaks is checked.  Also, you may want to change the timecode setting...try using internal

Thanks for that info Gerry - it is a shame that your post attracted no responses.

Of course the GV HD 700 deck is from the Sony Z HDV range, and a very widely used range.

    John,

I never expected an answer to my post, I was just pointing out that the problem was aslo present with the Sony Z1.

They are trying to fix over 200 "serious/major" problems with MC5 at the moment - guess we will just have to wait and see how far up the list this one is.
