Reading your posts you have been new to Media Composer for three months now, you are referring to the readme in some of your posts, I am very surprised that you haven´t read about all the new features in MC 5

Hi mjolnarn:  I really do not understand your reply but anyway yes I read about the new features but if you go the videoguys web site they are promoing MC5 upgrade and it states there is no support for AVCHD.  Wait let me copy paste it.  Avid AMA supports all the latest HD tapeless workflows including Panasonic P2, Sony XDCAM, RED and H.264 footage from DSLRs. While we don't have AMA support for AVCHD yet, I have no doubt it's coming. This came yesterday.  Did I miss something?  That is all I am asking.Geeked

AMA will not work with AVCHD. You can import avchd files.

Cool!  Is there any place in the forum or web site that explain the workflow  on how to work with AVCHD or is it as simple as just import the files.

My apologies for any confusion. I have added the following line to the article for clarification:

(Note: MC5 does support AVCHD, but you have to import and convert the files).

The workflow is very easy, and the more powerful your computer is, the faster the import and conversion will go.

You import the file just like you would import a Quicktime or a TIFF.  When you import you can choose the codec that Avid will convert the footage into.  I would recommend DNxHD 145.  The speed of the import depends on how fast your computer is.  AVCHD is a CPU intensive compression codec.

    Re: Dose MC5 support AVCHD

Well I think I can give you how I go about mine. I use the panasonic HMC150 (tapeless AVCHD that shoots with the file extension .mts). I have MC 5, so after shooting, I download the .mts files from the sd card that the camera records to, to my computer.

I open MC 5, create a new project (HD 1080 60i) because I shoot in 1080 60i, then in MC, I click file - import and locate the folder that contain my .mts files(normally in a subfolder call 'stream'), I select all or anyones I want to work with. MC will start importing into the bin of my project(well it takes sometime because of my computer speed). After all files imported, I drop them in the timeline and work on it as any other project.

I think this will give you an idea and hope others can help if you need specific information.
