I have switched boot now and created a file from SS5 , source media DNxHD 185x, using preset DVD_PAL 16x9_Lg and changed that one in this way:
VBR speed rates Max 8000 Avg 6800 Min 4000
Stream Type Program
Filter setting:
Deinterlace Adaptive Blend/Discard - Discard Top Field
No ther changes, will switch boot now and do a test on Avid Dvd 6,1,1

Just tried, the file from SS5 is beeing reencoded by Avid Dvd 6,1,1, will check my settings in SS6 and do a new test
I have just successfully used a file encoded with SS5 with the above changes to the preset and one more change made, change the aspect from unconstrained to letterbox.
Anyone else ??
I tried the same preset with the same changes, but no luck. Avid DVD 6.1.1 still wants to transcode.
Maybe this is only possible with the last version of Squeeze, version 6
edited. did you set your encoding speed in Avid Dvd to a bit above 8 mbps, I used 9000 myself ?
I've tried umpteen settings, but nothing helps as long as my SS5 encoded file is VBR.
Ok, I am doing a one hour project encoding now with SS6, will publish the SS5 preset after that to see if anyone else are lucky, otherwise, it seems to be the latest bundle that are needed for this to work well
The strange thing is, I know I haven't always had this problem. Maybe it's something that came along when I updated to SS 5.1?
I'll try reinstalling 5.0 and checking when I get my hands on the 5.0 installer tomorrow.
This just in! I think I have discovered the source of this problem. Assuming your other settings are correct, this is what I've found will ALWAYS prevent Avid DVD from accepting compliant files. Your audio file mus be just clightly longer than your video stream. Even if they say they are the same, i will not work. Do a second separate audio encode and make the time slightly longer. It's worked everytime now, and before, it never worked. See here for my full story:

Have you considered that this may be a quirk with Sorensen rather than DVDit?

Actually, as I have revised my other post, I just determined that even though Avid DVD is not saying "transcoding", but rather, "building movies" - it is, in fact transcoding. I found the resulting bluray and SD dvd files had both actually been transcoded (re-encoded). Their bit rates had become what was in my project settings menu, and in the case of the bluray file, it had become an mpeg 2.
It is very, very unlikely that every single kind of Sorenson output, and every variation, would always be rejected by Avid DVD because of a problem with Sorenson Squeeze. This had been a long-standing issue with Avid DVD, and the only thing that has been done with this software to update it has been changing the color and artwork of the loading screen and desktop icon.
If you want to make DVDs of weddings and your kids T-Ball game, Avid DVD is The Bomb. If you want a real Authoring tool that's not an Avid/Sonic shell game, I suggest Encore, or ditching Avid and going to FCP, which bundles with an excellent authoring tool.
I did a night render redoing my latest project, 1 hour 2 minutes of project took 7 hours 30 minutes to create with SS6... wow ....
The file however looks great and it runs straight through Avid Dvd without beeing transcoded, so far so good and the disc burnt without a menu looks real great when looking at it.
When I start doing menu editing in Avid Dvd using this file the fun stops, everything runs very very slowly and I get no picture - video into my animated buttons starting from button 3, it is all just grey.
I have spent to many hours with this test now and my feelings right now is to drop it, if you have a Mac, know someone who has or have intentions to buy one, maybe just a lap, I would strongly recommend Bitvice for your preencodings, works excellent together with Avid Dvd 6,1,1
I'll go along with that John.
I have never used Squeeze to encode with.... and I never had any of the troubles mentioned here and in numerous other posts. I cannot say I have never had any problems with Avid DVD..... but those were other problems. Not that I have anything against Tomas solving the Squeeze problem. That would be nice if he does.
Already people are reporting that AvidDVD 6.1.1 is working for them

Of course. The files must be either DVD or Blu-Ray compliant to fulfill the specifications set down by the bodies that make the standards for them.
E.g. AvidDVD has the following norms. If you feed it anything other than those listed below...... they will be transcoded.

Tomas,
Thank you for trying to get to grips with the Squeeze problem.
However I have one question that I can never seem to answer.
mjolnarn:I did a night render redoing my latest project, 1 hour 2 minutes of project took 7 hours 30 minutes to create with SS6... wow ....
I still cannot see why everyone is banging their heads on the wall and trying to get Squeeze to work.
Then again, I may well be blind.regards,Douglas
