How to Insert a Video Clip Into Your Forum, Tutorial or Blog Post

Sometimes you've got to show what you know. Using video clips to demonstrate technique in a community tutorial is easy to do. In only two steps, I'm going to show you how to insert videos from YouTube.com or Vimeo.com into your own Avid Community Tutorial.

This step-by-step guide assumes you've already uploaded your content to YouTube or Vimeo and are in the process of writing your tutorial post.

    Step 1: Copy the address

In your browser, copy the web address of the page the video lives on. In this example we're copying a YouTube web address (URL) from the Internet Explorer address bar. Make sure the URL you copy follows this format: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxxxxx.

    Step 2: Insert Media

While writing your tutorial, click the Insert Media button in the toolbar. The Insert Media icon looks like a filmstrip.

Clicking Insert Media will open a dialog box.

Paste the web address of the video from Step 1 into the "Media URL" field.

Enter a width and height. We recommend 640x360 for 16:9 or 640x480 for 4:3 content.

    Click the Insert button.

In the body of the post, you'll see a line of code in brackets. This is where the actual video will be inserted when you post. You can move the bracketed code around anywhere in the body of the post in relation to your text description.

    All done!

The end result will look like this:

This is cool thanks, but I was looking at posting a finished trailer in the portfolio option - and I can't find anyway to add or delete in that area.

Hey all, looking for some help.  I don't know if it's just me, but every time I try to post a video I get "Access Denied: Post Permission Denied" followed by "Either this forum does not exist or you are not allowed to post."  I've literally clicked on every post category and I get the same message.

Anyone know if Community posting is down, or has run into this issue themselves???

    Thanks in advance,

Adam, looks like I spoke too soon.  When I choose the file to upload the following message is above, and I can't upload.

"You do not have permission to upload or link to files. Please contact your system administrator."

Adam, sorry for the delay, I've been busy.  Now it seems that I've got access up until after I pick my video and click the save button.  Nothing happens at all at this point.

    SDM,

Apologies but I was out the last few days.   Can you email me directly - let me know which forum (s) this happens in or if you are tryign to upload a tutorial.  It might be easier to call you so include your phone # in the email if thats easier.

Re: How to Insert a Video into your Community Tutorial

    Peter

First have you uploaded your video to Youtube of Vimeo?  thats step one.

Then copy the URL from YouTube or Vimeo including the http://

Then in your post - select the film strip icon.

Next to Media URL - paste in the URL

    normally use a size of 640 x 360

    insert

the picture will NOT show until you actually hit post.  All you see prior to posting is a line of code in brackets.
