Avid FX/ Boris not in my MC 4.0.3 effects pallette

I'm gradually learning Media Composer. Following some tutorials I Just recently started to explore effects, and I've discovered that Avid FX is not in my effects pallette. Came across a thread where someone had the same problem, but with an earlier version of the software. I couldn't find any solutions in that thread. Any ideas? Extreme frustration is setting in.

The first question is did you install them?

If not do you have install discs for them?

If not how did you purchase Media Composer?  (Box, academic, upgrade?)

Thanks for the reply mullen,   Purchased from Ebay, and installed by my business partner who handles all things technical. He's out of town right now, and I was hoping I could solve the problem with some help from the forum without having to wait for him to return.   Do you think the files are there, just in the wrong place or something? Not sure where to look exactly. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Check from the windows control panel/application if Avid FX and Boris are installed, or see if there's a Boris FX folder inside the Program Files folder in Your C: drive, if not the software hasn't been installed, still it should be in the MC box; if the Boris FX folder is there but it doesn't show up in the effect palette, the only thing I can think of is that You upgraded from an earlier version: the AVX plugin location changed with MC 4 and with the first few releases manually moving the plugins from the earlier location to the new one or editing the windows registry was required.

The easiest way to find out is to go to control panel and see the list of programs

installed. If you find there the AvidFX then it's installed.

Re: Avid FX/ Boris not in my MC 4.0.3 effects pallette

Thanks for the insight everybody. I didn't realize that Avid FX and Boris would show up as separate programs in my control panel. I assumed they were within Media Composer. Apparently they have not been installed yet.  Much appreciated.
