    Import/Export Crashes MC Everytime

We run 3 identical MC 3.1.3 systems tied to Unity. For months one of the systems crashes out of MC immeadiatly when the Import or Export command is used. Never even gets to the point of selecting what to import or what type of file to export - crashes as soon as Import or Export is selected - no error message, MC just vanishes back to the XP desktop.

With 2 other systems available for file I/O we've just worked around it. All 3 systems are identical in hardware and software versions. We've reinstalled MC few times on the problem system and it operates normally in all other respects. I've been working on Avids for the better part of 15 years and can usually track down problems but this one...!

My guess is something in XP is shutting it down but I don't know what. I've checked the XP Event Viewer for odd happenings but see nothing out of the ordinary.

    Re: Import/Export Crashes MC Everytime

If you haven't tried already: Create a new user profile?  Check QuickTime version?  Also open QuickTime Player and check QuickTime Preferences --> Advanced --> set Video to use Safe Mode (GDI only), not DirectX.

Once, I had an odd problem (but don't remember what exactly) that was seemingly unrelated to QuickTime, but it was cured by the Safe Mode setting.

Self-built -- Always current MC version with AJA KONA 1 card OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, System: X99 Motherboard, Core i7-6850K, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB RAM... [view my complete system specs]

Using QT ver 7.4.5 preference is set to use Safe Mode.

Have tried other user profiles that import/export on our other 2 systems with no problem

    Any other ideas?

    Marc....

MC 3.1.3 should be running QT 7.5.5 as per the version matrix.

    http://avid.force.com/pkb/LegacySearch?DocId=267087&Hilite=version+matrix

Also, you are on XP so I assume you have SP2 or SP3 installed?  Right?  Also, you have WMP 11 installed too right?

The QT might seem insignificant but that might be it.

    Mark,

Quit out of the Unity Client and see if you can import to your Internal HD.

    Does that work?

Also, I don't see your version of Unity and the Unity Client. Can you tell us what they are?

    Re: Import/Export Crashes MC Everytime

I unmounted/logged off the Unity workspaces and tried an import. MC did not quit - a login window opened asking for my password to the Unity workspaces. I put in the password and then MC quit. Next time I did the same thing and it quit without asking for a password.

Ok, still need the version of Unity and the Unity client tho...

So what is happening is there is a problem with the connection to your storage. We need to check that the ATTO card (Assuming you are fibre connected)'s firmware and Driver versions are right, that the Fibre cable is good and anything else in that storage path we can think of. Something is up in that path to your Unity.

Ok so your Unity is v4.0.4. I just need to know your Unity CLIENT version on the MCs themselves.

One problem I see is that, with MC 3.1.3, you need to be running Unity v4.1.6 - 5.1.2. This could be at the heart of the problem. You need to upgrade your Unity to run those client versions.

    Thanks for your help.

Where would I find the Unity client version info?

Also, I have 2 other MC systems connected to the same Unity running the same hardware and software. Those systems import/export with no problem. The problem sytem digitizes and plays media to/from Unity without issue - It's only file import/export that is a problem.
