Hello
I will soon be working on a UK 25fps production that would like to shoot a lot of slomotion at 50fps or more using RED, with the ability to use these shots in the film as 'real time' shots as well - speeding up the footage by 200% to make it run at normal speed.
Is this possible? and will it look ok?
I am currently working on a project that has some 100fps footage shot on Phantom and we have had success at speeding it up to look the correct speed.
I have heard that Final Cut Pro performs this task very well with RED footage, but I would be grateful for some clarification on this and appreciate advice or tips from anyone who has tried this with Avid Media Composer.
Many thanks

How will you be going from R3D to Avid? MetaFuze will allow you to set the destination format to 1080/25p, AFAIK. That will give you frame-by-frame slowmotion (like with overcranked 35mm). If you need to make them run normal speed, you may apply a 200% motion effect. Should work fabulously. Easiest would be to use a Both Fields 200% effect. This will maintain the resolution of each frame (and keep the result progressive), but it will skip every other frame.
You should have no problems. You just have to figure out the math.
Hopefully, they shoot at multiples of 25, so the math is easy. :)

Thank-you very much.
We plan to use Meta fuze.
Thats great information - it's good to be reassured!
