Yes, that is my version, works well together with Avid, codec errors with the DNxHD codec was reported in the past when CS4 was released but CS3 has always worked well.
Tomas
give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me
Encore is a bit more versatile then DVD it, you can use Photoshop to build menus and buttons and import them into Encore ready to link to your media. CS4 now allows you to export your authored DVD as an interactive Flash presentation for the web. HD QT-Ref or movie files out of Avid directly into DVDit works best, I’ve tried transcoding HD files in Sorenson, DVDit will re-transcode those files when making a blu-ray disk.
Hello Steve,
You can build menues in photoshop for DVDit too.I have just made a few motion menues using AfterEffects, and I am planning to test making some motion menues in AvidFX in the coming weeks.
But I will say that Encore and Photoshop have a much better way of sharing files with each other.
As I mentioned in a similar thread on the forums - there is a bug in DVDitProHD/AvidDVD that allows other muxers to hijack DVDit's own muxer.
THis means that a perfectly "Legal" MPEG-2 file will 1. Pass through without re-encoding on one set-up BUT 2. NOT pass through on another set-up.It all depends on how many different muxer/demuxers are present on your system.E.g. Sorensoon uses Main Concept muxer/demuxers. They can sometimes hijack DVDitProHD's own ones.In that case a perfectly legal file will have to be re-encoded by DVDitProHD.
So, for the time being, it is not worthwhile beating out our brains trying to find a "legal" MPEG-2 encoding until the bug has been fixed. (That may be a bit harsh...... but something like that) What is one computers "legal" may be another computers "illegal".

Very correct Douglas, I have seen this for a couple of years, it is very much also about system disciplin, not doing auto updates and not install new apps or making updates without first having created a safe copy of your bootdisc.
When you have a perfect working system, be very careful not to change it and create some safe copies from time to time, just to be sure.
just my 2 öre ( cent )
mjolnarn:t is very much also about system disciplin, not doing auto updates and not install new apps or making updates
Unfortunately it is not so easy as that Tomas.
From experience;
I tested 5 different set-ups by using the same "guaranteed legal" file in AvidDVD.On one system the file did not pass though and was shown to be using Main Concepts muxer/demuxer.It had been installed together with Sorenson Squeeze. How many MC users have Squeeze installed?
Another system did not allow the pass-through as it was being hijacked by Nero:s muxer/demuxers.But on another set-up, with Nero installed, the file passed through as it should.
I believe that in a coming version of DVDitProHD from Sonic there should be a solution to this problem. When that will appear, or even if it will be quickly implemented in a new version of Avid DVD I have no idea.
I am now using version 6.4.2 as part of the BD Powerstation suite, and expect to be able to upgrade when the new version is released.
Time will tell............
I have never, on any system, been able to use 6,4 for dvd disc creating without the preencoded files beeing reencoded, I still use the " old " 6,3 version with the monte carlo patch manually updated with a fix from Roxio a couple of years ago.
As 6,3 not is Vista certified I use it on a system with XP SP3 installed. I have also seen probs with having windows media player 11 installed together with this version of Sonic Dvdit Pro HD so I am still on WMP 10 on that sys. ( and windows keeps asking me every time I use wmp 10 if it is really truth that I don´t want to upgrade to wmp 11 this time either ... )
This about always having to update your systems, some users even have auto update turned on all the time, they have to understand that it is all about editing systems where a lot of apps should work together in harmony and just one little update can destroy a previous well working workflow in maybe a couple of other apps.
mjolnarn,
Any idea where I can find the Encore library?
Hi Douglas,
The patience you have is amazing and your support for SONIC is even more amazing! It is unfortunate that SONIC has continued to release DVDIT and DVDIT Pro HD with the pass through problem. The additional burn errors and problems that are associated with this program are frightening. In my opinion, this program should have been FREEWARE along time ago. It has almost no value in a production environment when time is a factor and absolute quality is a must. It simply WILL FAIL in some way when you are in your last hour.
Butterfly should simply skip this program and move to Encore. It works and does a great job. It will crash too, as ALL programs do, but it is predictable and dependable.
Have a great day and thank you for all you do on the forums!

Hello Pete,
Not really. You see I have had success with DVDitProHD for most of the time.
One thing that I am not sure about, but that I imagine is true.DVDitPro is sold under the Roxio lable.I see Roxio compared to Sonic as something like Pinnacle compared to Avid. With the release of Sonic BD Powerstation I have a feeling that Sonic will now take more care of DVDitProHD and probably try and bring it up to the advanced level of the other 2 applications in the suite.Namely Cinevision and ScenaristQC.
Cinevision takes over DVDitProHD's role as an encoder. The possibilities within Cinevision are amazing. Remember that Cinevision is an encoder that can ONLY encode "legal" files for Blu-Ray and/or DVD production. If any of your settings are "wrong" it will not allow you to continue until you adjust the, correctly. Also it does VC-1, which is a far better format that Mpeg-2. By the way VC-1 legal files ALWAY pass through in all versions of DVDitProHD. On my set-ups which re-encode Mpeg-2 files... there are no problems with VC-1.It does not have the versatility of Squeeze or Procoder. It cannot do QT/FLV/AVI etc....In having only 1 function (?) it can concentrate on doing a highly professional job.Yesterday I encoded a 45 minute project with Cinevision. It took 5 hours to crunch its way through the file!!The resulting Blu-Ray (authored in DVDitProHD 6.4.2) played back perfectly at an amazing bit rate of 30,000 - 35,000 kbps with occasional peaks at 50,000 kbps. The quality of the picture was visibly better than projects done in Encore, TMpegenc TAW4 and even directly with DVDitProHD's own encoding.
I think my patience is paying off......
By the way, I am sorry that I am, in a way, hijacking this thread started by Butterfly. But there is no longer an area for DVD/Blu-Ray authoring threads. If anyone has a good suggestion as to where we can discuss DVDitProHD, AvidDVD and others like Encore and TAW, I will be happy to join in.
Hi Douglas; Yes I know you can build menus and buttons for DVDit I guess I should have been more specific, what I should have said is you can build layered groups with button codes, highlight codes, navigation codes, sub picture navigation codes and so on in Photoshop and import them into Encore. Don’t get me wrong I think DVDit is a great application, I have been using it for quite a few years, even now when I need to build a fast menu for a client I’ll do it in DVDit. However I find I have more control especially with layers that I can build in Photoshop, assemble them in folder groups, add the appropriate code and import the group file into Encore.
As for trying to use a Sorenson Squeeze Blu-ray MPEG-4 file in DVDit I had to smile while reading your explanation because I did “beat out my brains” I must have spent hours trying to figure why it was re-transcoding my files, I finally started searching the forms and came across your tutorials (really loved watching them Douglas, thanks for taking the time and sharing your work) anyway the double transcoded Blu-ray files coming out of DVDit looked bad while being played on a blu-ray player and watched on a HD monitor. So following your instructions I did some test running my HD QTREF file and QTMOVIE test file out of Avid and directly into DVDit, the results where good! I preferred using QTMOVIE files mostly because I can then save project assets to other drives. I also started playing with the settings and watching the results using Total Media Theatre where I can set up the application menu to view the bit rate while watching the video and adjust my transcode settings for a decent picture throughout the video. Thanks again Douglas for explaining the problem with DVDit and thanks for your great tutorials.
Cheers
Steve
butterfly: mjolnarn, Any idea where I can find the Encore library?
Butterfly, is it the menu libraries you are searching for?
and Douglas, I understand that you are enthusiastic about the new 2500$ tool you are testing for Sonic but it is a moderators job to keep threads ontopic, not to drive them offtopic..
It is free for all, even moderators, to start up their own threads about nice apps and workflows that they have found, when we " ordinary " users does that, moderators sometimes moves our threads or posts to other forums or threads, if they are found offtopic.
edited.. and I really hope that you aren´t in any way advertising this product for Sonic ?
Yes Tomas the menu libray, menus's, buttons etc.
A window with " Library , Style and Layers " should be situated in the lower right corner if you are using the default settings, for more help, you might also visit the Adobe forum
Is there any to AMC related workflow that could cause an error during building in Encore? It happens during transcoding a Quick time reference exported in AMC.
I am doing this workflow all the time to AE and Soundbooth, the few times that I have done it to Encore, I have had no problems, is the qt ref importing well into Avid Dvd or Squeeze ?
Does it play well with QT player ?
