Using a JVC HD110--for 720p HDV. Using tape, and all of the sudden getting massive audio distortion when capturing through FW. Everything captures fine for about 40 seconds, then the audio meters peak like mad and it distorts worse than one of my freshman running audio!
It is not the camera or the cable (I don't think), because it all works fine at work on an Xpress Pro HD system. MC is an academic version 3.5. Tried with three different FW cables just to be sure.
It DID capture fine for about 40 minutes (with no distortion at all) worth of footage before this issue appeared.
Normal DV captures fine--terstd two other cameras. Wondering if anyone else has come across this rather odd issue. Tried changing to WAVE in the audio project settings, no difference (changed back to MXF).
I'd almost feel better if this had been this way from the very start, but I did manage, as I said, to capture 40 minutes or so with no issues at all, then ka-blooo-ey--in an audio sense, anyway.
Might the 4.0.x upgrade help? Thanks to anyone who has any guidance.

Going back to 3.1.1 fixed the audio distortion thing for me. Maybe 4.x works, who knows?
Best of luck,

That's right...an xw8000.
What version of 3,5 are you using, 3,59 is a free update, have you tried with that one ?
Tomas
give us the iso files back in Avid Dvd please, no gi files for me
I had the same problem when I captured HDV 720P50 with JVC BR-HD50. It always happened at the beginning of a new clip, and sometimes disappeared at the next clip.
It was solved by Avid with version 3.5.4.3 and it never came up again after having installed this patch. So I think, it will not be present any more with version 3.5.9. I am running 4.0.4 in between, and I do not have this problem any more.

Said I'd report back after upgrading to 4.0.3. Well, I did manage to upgrade OK, but now...I cannot capture anything at all, from any camera. It seems as if my 1394 connections have dissapeared. Tried front and back 1394 connections, new cables, old cables, the JVC GY110, and two consumer DV cameras that ALL worked with 3.5. Nothing works with the upgrade.
Windows does not even recognioze a camera when I plug it in. Of cousre the device manager says the 1394 connections are working fine.
Grrrrr....
Maybe 4.0.3 won't play nice with my "unsupported" Gateway.

Douglas,
I had the same problem when switching to Windows 7. After some research, I identified the IEEE-1394 driver causing the problem. In Windows 7 I have manually selected the driver:"OHCI-konformer 1394-Hostcontroller (alt)" and all worked fine. I do not know whether Vista 64 has the same driver available, but it might be worth to try. May be it is called somewhat different in an English version of the OS. I would look after a driver which has the word "old" or "legacy" in the description.
Good luck.
