60p conform to 24p for "overcranking"

I am shooting on my new cannon 7d.  I see lots of guys using Final Cut and Cinema Tools to take footage shot in 720/60p and then convert or conform to 720/24p and get s clean and crisp overcranking slo motion effect.

    Any Ideas?

    Two ways:

    1. Prior to importing the clips into a 720/23.98p project, type "IgnoreQTRate True" into the console. This will force a frame-by-frame import of the source file, rather than one maintaining speed. This won't work if the clip has audio.

    2. If you're on MC4, you could import the 720/60p footage into a 720/60p project. Then go into a 720/23.98p project, open the bin and use the material. It will be automatically speed corrected by a motion adapter. In the timeline, park on the clip, open the Effects Editor, and promote the motion adapter into a TimeWarp effect, and set the playback speed to 23.976fps.

Third option would be to use CinemaTools to convert the clip's speed prior to import.

Thank you so much.  I am using MC 3.something.  I also have audio in the clips.  Is Cinema Tools for use on Windows Machine?

    Thank you

Re: 60p conform to 24p for "overcranking"

I tried to conform using step 2...I brought clip into reg 720/60p project.  I then started and imported bin into a 720/24p project.  When I clicked the media it just errored and said it was not a matching rate.

How do I get this to adapt it?

    thanks

As said, you would need to be on V4 for that to work.

Cinema Tools is Mac only, and is a part of Final Cut Studio, not available standalone, AFAIK.

Did you not try sugestion nr. 1? That should be the simplest way if you're on V3.

I couldn't do step 1 as my clips have audio?  I guess I need to upgrade to v4?

You could strip the sound, then import.

I wondered about that...how would I go about that?

QT Pro would be your friend. You could copy paste just the video track and just the sound track into two new QT movies, then import those. If you don't really need to use the sound, simply open the movie in QT Pro and delete the audio track(s), then save.

Re: 60p conform to 24p for "overcranking"

thank you so much!  I have been using the QT Pro work flo and it has been working great...time consuming, but it works.

I hace upgraded to MC4.  I followed your instructions and it works, however, when I time warp only a portion of the clip is left...I do not get the entire clip?

    Help?
