2 Longstanding Annoyances - Any Solutions?

I've got 2 problems (easily workaroundable, but not the point) that have existed ever since the upgrade to MC 3.X, that still occur with 4.0.2.  Has anyone run into these and found actual solutions:

    1. When opening certain projects, the component video out level drops well below zero (as viewed on a waveforem monitor), and the only way to fix it is to open the Video Output tool, and toggle the HDMI color space to whatever setting it's not currently on.

    2. Since v. 5 the Sorenson 'send to' template does give options for format/settings anymore.  The drop downs are blank and can't be changed.  Sorenson then opens and begins an NTSC DVD compression, even though there was no selection.  The send to templates worked perfectly fine with Sorenson 4 and MC 2.X.

None of these are wrist slitting problems, just annoyances that you would think would have been noticed and/or corrected in the multiple updates since.

FYI - these are all occuring on an approved xw8600 Nitris DX.

I'm experiencing this exact same problem on the same platform as yours, but it doesn't happen all the time, even when opening the same project(s).

This happens usually when source material with RGB color levels (0-255) is imported with 601/709 setting (16-235).

Have the clips been captured from tape or imported from some file format? What happens if you open the same media in another project?

In my case, this is unrelated to source clips, color levels, imports, captures, etc. And it only affects the outputs to the NTSC line monitor and outboard waveform/vectorscope. All displays within the Avid GUI, including the source and record monitor windows display a normal signal.

Hmm [^o)] Re: 2 Longstanding Annoyances - Any Solutions?

Did you check all your Documents and Settings Userfiles? It seems you are making use of general settings since you upgraded from one system to another and still experience the same. Since I have no test sytem to check any video outputs I can't come up with a detailed solution but in the next three folders you will find, there are general Avid settings that will stay behind after uninstall and will be looked back into after reinstall (XP=presumed; Show hidden files and folders 'checked' in 'folder options'):

    C:\Documents and Settings\Editor\Application Data\Avid\Avid Media Composer\Settings

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avid\Avid Media Composer

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid

Check the dates of these files with your c:/programfiles/Avid-files to see if they are still from your former installHuh?

Re: 2 Longstanding Annoyances - Any Solutions?

I'm being plagued this issue every day with Nitrix DX. Even with new projects and new settings along the way, it still flips. I was told by Avid support that the issue is with projects created with the old Adreline hardware, and going forward it should not happen. Well, it does.  After a brand new project is created, Iimport a clip, placed it on the timeline and did a digital cut. When I stop the digital cut the display flips again. I then toggle the video output tool selection from RGB to YCbCr (or opposite), try the digital cut again and every thing is fine until I stop the digital cut. The diplay flips again when I stop. This happens consistently on both of our Nitris platforms tied to Unity 5.1. Grrr.

Since there are three of us experiencing the same issue - flipping color space to correct output video levels, I am escalating this issue.

Re: 2 Longstanding Annoyances - Any Solutions?

    Larry,

This is an issue that I reported when the DX box was in Beta. It's has, customarily, been associated with the hardware. Don't know what causes it but it stopped happening here for me around the 3.5.x update. I work on local storage and I did see the issue with my old projects but, since those projects have gone away, the new stuff I've captured or imported doesn't show the problem.

Ill re-ping the Media Composer team to make sure they see this.

Re: 2 Longstanding Annoyances - Any Solutions?

    Hi Todd:

I'm experiencing this issue on both legacy projects and newly created projects on Nitris DX in ISIS/Interplay. However, it IS intermittent in the sense that it may or may not be necessary on the exact same project, opened at different times. I cannot establish a discernible pattern.

Marianna informs me this has been logged as a bug, and the team will address it. No expected fix date yet. I will post more information when I have it.

Re: 2 Longstanding Annoyances - Any Solutions?

It's good to see that some action is taking place.  I remember reading that it had to do with old Adrenaline projects (which I had many), but it still continues even with new Nitris projects as well.

Now, am I the only one with this Sorenson issue?  I posted a few months back about it and had another user with the same issue, but I can't imagine it's only the 2 of us!

Re: 2 Longstanding Annoyances - Any Solutions?

We also ran into this when changing from Adrenaline to Nitris DX. What worked for us was to remove the Nitris hardware and driver via device manager, reboot and let Windows find and reinstall the hardware. No more toggling the video output.
