I am wanting to up my ram. How much ram can MC utilize? Does anyone know if windows 7 is or will be authorized to use with MC? Or is Vista the best bet?
Ryan
My understanding is this. . .
You can get (or find) 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Vista and 7. As 64-bit OS's, they will support additional RAM - you can probably go to 8GB. The OS will take advantage of the additional RAM.
But as far as I know, Avid Media Composer is still a 32-bit app, and will not utilize the additional RAM.
Although some folks are running the 64-bit versions of these OS's successfully with Avid software, the 64-bit versions are not Avid-certified.
Folks who know more than me, feel free to step in and correct any errors I have made.

thank you so much my Brother!
And as for Windows 7, they're working on it, but no word on how long it'll take, and speculating is against the forum rules so I'm not even going to guess. :)
I run MC 4.0.3 on Vista Home Premium (not supported), and it runs fine.

There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website
Vista 64 is supported with both MC 3.5 and 4, in such a OS the ram available for MC is up to four gigabytes and it makes a remarkable increase in stability and performance.

In Windows XP 32 bit, MC is limited by the OS to 2.5GB of RAM. In Vista 64 bit, it can use 4 GB. That is a significant jump. You will notice it if you ever used MC and Symphony in medium or large HD projects.
