    Bus Error message

    G5 pre-intel, 10.5.3, MC 3.0

I keep getting this message when I fire up AVID, and it happens at "initializing Desktop Video Resources"

"Bus Error" in thread "Main Thread" at address 0xbfffe290

Up until now, everything was running fine. BUT my computer was in the shop because the front panel switch wouldn't turn on, but they (said) they just did diagnostics, got it to turn on, no heavy repairs. But since I got it back, I started getting this message.

I know I have an outdated system, just trying to keep it up and running until I can afford upgrades all around.

Any idea what this is about?

    Thank you

Do you get the same error if you disconnect your storage? If no, then there's something up in your CPU. I'm guessing someone pushed the PMU button on the motherboard. That can sometimes cause strange issues like this.

I'd try resetting the PRAM, wiping the avid user settings, and making sure that the shop didn't upgrade your version of quicktime or anything like that.

    Re: Bus Error message

I thought at first it was this wacky drive that's been giving me problems. But I still get the bus error message when trying to fire up. Thing is, my G5 was in the shop for a week for diagnostics. Had no problem before, now I do when I get it back.

Is PMU button something I can investigate from home, and un-push if necessary, or should I take it back in to where it was diagnosed and have the technician do it (if that truly is the case)

    Thank you
