Workflow from XDcam HD to SD DVD help

    Hey there,

I feel like i've read a thousand threads on this topic but im still having trouble yielding great results. I need to get this to an SD DVD asap!

I have a natve 1080i 59.94 timeline from the EX1 media, 1080i 5994, 35mbs. I transoded all the media to DNxHD 220, did my edit of 1 hour and 30 minutes. All good.

Exported a QT reference and imported it to Sorrenson Squeeze to make my m2v for DVD. The resulting m2v file looks amazing when opened with VLC for a preview.

I then opened the m2v in DVD Studio Pro and previewed it via Simluation and the media still looked awesome and then burned it to disc. The results though were strange.

If I opended the DVD in VLC, the DVD looked great. If I opended it in the default DVD player on a mac, it looked bad. Looked like a field order problem. Any camera movement caused  a stroby, flicker look. But if I changed the "Deinterlace" tab of the DVD player to "Disable", the stroby flicker was gone and it looked great!

I then tried the DVD on a regular DVD player on a CRT monitor and it looked good. But then the client reported the same flicker issue as me when playing back on his home HD TV via a DVD player.

Thingking it was a field order issue I tried compressing the file in Sorrenson with Top field, Bottom Field and Progressive field orders, all givng the same result in the end.

I've tried other DVD's in my DVD players, and fooled around with the De-interlacing and they still looked good. None looked like the one I made.

Anyone have any help? This workflow shouldn't be too hard and I expect that my final DVD should look good on any screen, CRT, LCD, HDTV, Computer, whatever, because people are watching DVD's everywhere these days.

    Thanks in advance,

    Andrew

had some problems with sorenson and the field order too. since that I use TMPGEnc. great results. give it a try. or: use "DeInterlace" in sorenson. you'll end up with a "progressiv" m2v - so no problems - but the quality might suffer a little bit.

Unfortunately have tried both. Not very happy with either. Im wondering if this is a problem with this project only. I have no idea what to do. I should be easy!  Such a pain when you work so hard on something and can't give it to people how they want it.
