Ok, so Avid finally managed to fix the issue of importing 25fps media into a 50fps project and vice versa in version in 4.0. But 1080 .ale files still cannot be imported into a 720p50 project, which is kind of annoying.
Ofcourse the workaround of importing into a 1080p project and dragging the files over with media tool works fine, but it can't be that hard to enable the import of 1080p ale files into a 720p project when import of media works just fine.
I don't get that. The whole idea is that the project that the footage is captured/imported into, is of the corresponding frame rate. This in order to maintain proper metadata tracking. Same goes for ALE: these are metadata descriptors. You would need them to correspond to the project type you are bringing it into.
I get that, but why does this work when i pull the files via a separate project? It can't be impossible to merge the media and metadata correct if it's possible to go "around" the problem. The same goes for SD capture, i need the separate project to capture SD from archives..
I suppose a direct import would work if I used metafuze to create offline files from the R3D.

I find it quite reassuring. Otherwise it would pretty easy to mess things up.
What exactly is the issue you are experiencing, and in what workflow?
